The elderly couple on the top actually looks about right, but they don't look uneducated, just humble.
The shirtless WT idiots look like something you'd see in the trailer parks of nashville or something.... or maybe that represents Southern Iowa?

Build up Sioux City and your gonna snag alot of money from the west and keep money in Iowa, The morningside area in SC looks great, but make it look better along I-29 and get rid of the stinky meat packing plant. That plant did the same thing for SC that the plant here on Maurry Steet did for the east side of Des Moines, nothing but make it stink and be a less desirable place to live. The smell can drift for miles, there's no reason to have one in close proximity to any major populated area.
Population growth with increased tax revenue has the better shot in Sioux City, its worth the investment. Seems like anytime that SC has had a chance to pull something out of the state goodie bag, it always pulls out a rock like Charlie Brown.

Get a city council that focuses more on economic growth than banning gay marriage and you might see the changes you want.
I'd love to see those pictures, by the way. Link?

Why is it stupid? I'm not getting into the moral issues here, just the economic ones.
How many people would move to Sioux City because gay marriage would be banned? I doubt many.
Yet they would be sending a clear signal to the people who support gay marriage that they should find a different city.
How is that good for economic development? A bigger question is why they're spending time on stuff outside their jurisdiction when they could be concentrating on actual city issues that could improve the community.

I doubt that banning gay marriage is going hurt Sioux City that much in the eyes of the people to the west that might want to relocate there. Besides, I read the article and they tabled the issue anyway. It's probably a waste of time for them to be working on that, however. Perhaps they are trying to advertise to the lonesome folks in O'neill Nebraska... "Hey this aint San Francisco, come live in the straight arrow of Sioux City"
But really what would work better is working on sprucing up the downtown, the problem with SC is mostly cosmetic. Property values are not really that far below the state average, but they could be better and the town is slowly losing people. First impressions are everything to a person visiting and thinking about moving there. They ought to be looking at what the Sioux Falls city counsil is doing and copy that. Sioux Falls is real clean town and focused on it's economy.
Maybe South Sioux City Nebraska could concentrate on providing the night life since they allow smoking in bars over there. And SC could concentrate on more art and entertainment type things with theaters, farmers markets, condos, ect downtown for a more family friendly type atmosphere. Maybe better parks and trails might help also.

Bingo. They are unrelated issues, and that's the point. If you want to see economic progress, then vote for people who are going to make that job one. Not people who spend their time and energy writing silly bills like that.
I wasn't making an argument for or against gay marriage. Instead I was making a statement on priorities.

Just wanted to mention that King attended NW Missouri State in Maryville, 1967-1970. (from the washington post.com database) He started his own construction business in 1975.
A little more on King......
Steve King For Congress
" Because of his background as a small business owner, and the knowledge that 97% of all businesses in Iowa are small businesses, Congressman King sought a special waiver to serve on a third committee and was appointed to the House Small Business Committee. His goal has consistently been to restrict the government regulations that slow the growth of business and jobs."

Is Iowa Liberal?
Not really, in the sense that it's at all like liberal states such as California, where some of the liberal attitudes come from a diverse population. Iowa's more liberal than one might expect though, being a midwestern state. But then, Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin, all bordering Iowa, tend to be liberal too.
Go figure.

Notice: He attended NW Missouri State. He never graduated. I'm not even certain that those who do graduate from NW Missouri State are considered college educated...
