Anamosa (Cedar Rapids, Ely: living, to move, homeless)

Hubby just spoke w/ someone who may like to explore further with a job in Anamosa. Iowa is pretty, we've been there. But what is living there like? We're from Chicago, but not the fast-track "yuppies."

He can very easily slow down, but I don't want to come to a grindng halt. Not extremely active, myself; but i want to know that we'll not be COMPLETELY isolated.

I'm a nurse and don't expect that I'll have difficulty finding gainful employment. Not looking for traditional nursing jobs, but I still feel confident that i'll be able to find work.

Actually, we let ourselves get ahead of the game last eve, and decided that if the Anamosa job came to fruition, that we'd probably live in Cedar Rapids. He's been w/o work since March and we've no ties to Chicago, so someone may be telling us it's time to move.

Any thoughts on Cedar Rapids?

The only thing I know about anamosa is one of the states prisons is there. Not too far of a drive to Cedar Rapids and Iowa city, and about an hour away from davenport (quad cities). I live in davenport and its getting more ghetto here by the day. Weve had about 20 shootings in the last month and a half, and downtown is full of hookers, crack dealers, and homeless people. Iowa city is a nice town, has U of I, lots of young people, ive only been to Cedar rapids a few times. It seems pretty nice, although the downtown smells like quaker oats because of the industrial sites. What kind of job are you looking for, I hear CR has lots of high tech computer jobs.
