Default where to live in Des Moines

I'm moving to Des Moines this summer and would apprecaite any advise on where to live. I would prefer to be on the east side as I will be commuting to work outside of Des Moines. Is it feasible to live on the east side? What are some good areas/neighborhoods to live in?

I'm 28, single, and want an apartment close to downtown, but I'm fine being a 15 minute drive away from downtown. I would like to be around other young people and don't want to be stuck in an area dominated by families.

Thanks

The East Side isn't considered the nicest part of town, but if that's where you want to live go for it.

East Village, (and that whole area downtown), I don't think it's really big enough to split into zones because they're all so close, would all be great options too. There's a good amount of development going on, if you're coming from a major city, expect downtown to seem slow to what you're used to.

Yes, plenty of people do it.

If you're looking for an apartment close to downtown to the east, here's my advice: Don't. The apartments immediately around downtown to the east aren't very nice. There are plenty of decent spots around the east side though and the "East Village" neighborhood RonnieJonez mentions is nice.
