I would of picked Norwalk because it's close to the airport, but I imagine they will be very happy in WDM.

I live in Windsor Heights and would have to say, it's the best kept secret in the entire Des Moines area...easy and quick access to all the malls, airport, dwntwn, lakes, schools, YMCA, running/biking trail etc. I love it's charm. Besides having lived in Dallas, Des Moines is a small town. 20 mins from east to west.

Windsor Heights, a secret only because it's so small no one notices it or they think it's part of Clive. But I notice it because I ride my bike thru there alot on the greenbelt trail, and Winsdor Heights is very nice indeed, the whole square mile of it. Noticed the improvements they are making to the park there close to wall mart. Now us south siders can bike thru water works park and use the new connect with greenbelt to WH and Clive. WH is an excellent location in the city to get anywhere quick with easy access to the freeway, 63rd and University/Hickman. However, one can get east/west faster on the west side at 5PM using the bike trail rather than driving.

I avoid Windsor Heights like the plague when I drive. Drive across University at 35 mph, hit Windsor Heights, 25, get past WH, 35.

WH, you're not that special and I find nothing there that I can't get anywhere else in the metro.

mrs_moby73,

Welcome to WDM. You'll like it here. Well run community (for the most part), and as you have already noticed, anything you need within a 10 minute drive.

I do recommend the Des Moines Library system over WDM if you read. Much better selection.

Yes, that 25 MPH zone on University is annoying, and will produce a ticket should you forget, and best to watch out along 73rd between University and Hickman too. But the hardest 25 zone in the metro to obey has to be the one on Aurora in Urbandale, a 4 lane road that stays 25 MPH for what seems like forever.

Just watch it when you pass thru there (Aurora) late at night. The school, church and park will look very quiet, but someone is waiting for you to roll thru there going 40 and catch some of your cash. It's a west side thing, not just WH and Urbandale.
