Marshalltown city???????
Hello we are thinking probably of moving some what south from the Twin Cities for a warmer change. We found a place in Marshalltown that may be interesting, it needs to have a pool so that's why we're looking at the house only for now because we haven't found any other places in mid/north Iowa with one!

I'm looking at Marshalltown, too!
Hi there. Glad to see your post. I'm going over there the week of Mar 29th with my family. I have been actively seeking to move to Iowa as a school psychologist.
I'm currently in Washington State and am torn between Milwaukee and several regions within Iowa. Housing and cost of living is pretty cheap where I'm at in Washington, but I'm looking for a bit cheaper so the dollar stretches further. Plus, I need schools that are following more progressive for my sanity with work and my daughter who will graduate in 2 yrs.
So far, I really like what I see about Marshalltown.

If you're just looking for some general info about Marshalltown, here's another thread I found on that subject: http://www.city-data.com/forum/iowa/...shalltown.html
I've been there and it seemed okay but I don't want to say anything because I just haven't spent enough time there to know much about it.

If you're really looking for a temp change compared to minnesota, Iowa is so close that it wouldn't really justify moving.
Comparing Marshalltown to say Minneapolis is only around a 4 degree difference in the winter on average.

I thought that about the cold, too
Hey Chicago, glad you brought that up for the OP. When I read that they were considering moving to IA to warm up a bit, I thought..hummmm, not too warm there.

When I was driving from Texas back to Minnesota, the temperature change from Des Moines to Minneapolis even was wild. It was so nice to know all you have to do is drive a few hours south for a big change. I like the cool changes of season in Mn but it's also a guessing game of how slicely the chill is going to be any certain day... or the opposite.
So yeah thanks for the notes, I followed the link and read on it and learned a lot about it. We'll have to take a visit to see how we like the area.

Marshalltown, Iowa will be a big change from the Twin Cities. Make no mistake about it, Marshalltown is a blue collar town. You'll also find it to be a surprisingly diverse little city in terms of ethnicities, more so than most cities in MN.
