Congratulations Iowa!
You did it! You legalized Gay Marriage! That's awesome!
Not only did you do the right thing, but now there are literally a hundred thousand gay couples in places like Chicago, Kansas City, and Minneapolis that are planning to come to Iowa to get married. They'll bring their friends and family, rent out halls, buy flowers, stay in hotels, and spend, spend, spend.
Huge boon to the local economy.
Congratulations Iowa!

I think it will be a while before I visit but I would gladly spend my money in the state of Iowa.
It's a lot closer than MA,NH,CT, etc.
This news has me SOOO happy!!

Nice. I love what a "live and let live" state Iowa is.....
I think the state is towards the top of the list of knowing what's up and how to enjoy life.

Yay Iowa! Yay Iowa! Yay Iowa! Because, really, when it all comes down to it, who really gives a fig about who marries who? That gay couple next door helping you repair your fence or letting you borrow some flour is just the same as the straight couple who lives across the street and helps you in the same way. I am so happy for people who will be able to marry there!!!!! Unfortunately, North Carolina is trying to get a gay marriage ban to the state supreme court... Grrrrrrrrrrrrr. Even with all the gay people here and the open-minded transplants, this is still part of the 'bible belt' and I have a feeling this will get ugly. But, for now, go Iowa! Go Iowa! Go Iowa!!!

To the Supreme Court? How? I doubt the NC judiciary would condone anti-rights. As far as the legislature, they are thankfully still Democratically-controlled and with all the new transplants to Asheville (who didn't need any transplants to be liberal, lol), Charlotte, Raleigh, etc, will probably be from now on. North Carolina is a future battleground state for equal rights in marriage in the South, along with Virginia.
As far as Iowa goes, it looks like it is a lot more difficult to amend the constitution in Iowa than California. That's great news for us, even if they were able to target the legislature for passing an equal marriage ban, the earliest it could happen would be 2011 sesion, and hopefully by then the pendulum will have swung a bit further...
