Go live in a cave and spear mastodons if you love tradition.

Of course, I'm assuming you don't do this already.

What polarized angry times we live in. Of course there is a perfectly sane solution to this seemingly intractable problem.

A Gay-Marriage Solution: End Marriage? - TIME

Of course there is a fat chance of that happening. The era of big government is back with a vengeance, so I doubt government is going to stick its nose out of the marriage business. A pity. This thing really is nobody's business but the parties involved. We can now all go back to screaming at each other.

I'm a straight guy and I'm glad to see this ruling come down. It's time that we send a message to the large, corrupt churches that they will not be able to legislate their moral views on the rest of society.

Because so many of you fantastic and SANE posters already said my feelings on the subject, I won't digress too much. Let me just say that Tvdxer- I feel very sorry for you. That you are so affected by gay people being able to marry in another state is really sad. I mean, you are going to lay in bed tonight thinking about this and getting so worked up over it, probably coming back to the computer to post more of your religious zealot thoughts. I, for one, will sleep quite soundly, thank you, knowing that we are that much closer to equality for all and peace on earth. After all, my (future) children deserve a country in which animals aren't gassed to death in shelters, there IS separation of church and state and A COUNTRY WHICH GIVES EQUAL RIGHTS TO EVERYONE!

(and we are adopting from Ethiopia, by the way, so does that make me a horrible person in your book, tvdxer? I can have kids, though, which apparently you feel is the only basis for marriage- I sure hope my husband and I don't go to hell now! I mean, adopting an African orphan whose family was killed from AIDS and putting off having biological children- wow, we surely have sinned, don't you think?)

Thanks to this ruling, two men or two women "marrying" will be granted the same rights as if one of the men married one of the women. This is an abomination. Marriage has a purpose - to promote the formation of families and the education of children - and no per se sterile union of sodomy can fulfill this purpose.

This is just another example of where "love" and "rights" are distorted by our sexually sick society beyond their original meanings to signify an "anything goes" attitude. True love for active homosexuals would mean recognizing the immorality of their lifestyle, rather than officially sanctioning it in your legal code and practices.

Shame on you, Iowa Supreme Court.

Ok, I'm seeing way too many people without "Iowa" in their location and I figure it's only going to get worse. Not that people from other states can't post in the Iowa forum, it's just that we're starting to discuss gay marriage at a national level instead of gay marriage in Iowa.

I would ask that those of you who wish to discuss gay marriage please do so in the "Great Debates" forum. It's a better place for it.

I'm going to close this thread. I hope those of you who wish to discuss gay marriage in Iowa understand and maybe we'll do so once the headlines die down. I'm going to leave the "yay! there's gay marriage!" thread or whatever it's called up until it takes a turn from lighthearted or away from gay marriage in Iowa.

I hope everyone understands.
