Default Worried in Davenport

I've been laid off for 3 mnths. My wife for 1. We filed for Chap. 7 and the house is about to be foreclosed on because I couldn't/wouldn't pay my mortgage companies lawyers fees. They attached the fees to my mortgage. Get you coming and going. I'll eventually get back to work but I'm worried about finding a place to live with 3 boys after this Chap. 7 deal and the foreclosure. I'm a good carpenter that would even relocate or work on the dwelling for a roof. I'm afraid it's going to be very difficult finding someone who will work with me. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions and/or advice.

How expensive is the house? How much is the mortgage?

We bought the house for 75,000 and the mortgage is 708.00. The problem is I got laid off last yr. Right after I returned to work I got hurt. I fell behind on the mortgage and everything else. When all this happened the mortgage company put their band of lawyers on it. Now I have lawyers fees tacked on to the mortgage. I've been in this house two yrs. Right now I owe around 74,600. Two years and 400 bucks to principle. Isn't it grand.

You should just move to Des Moines. Your money problems will magically fix themselves there. Be sure to live in the "East Village" too, because it will make all your New York City friends envious.

jrs1966- Thanks for the suggestion but if Des Moines and the East Village are that magical when it comes to money, my guess is everyone in the country would be moving there.

It was sarcasm...

There's this little city-data war going on between those who think Des Moines is the cat's pajamas and those who go out of their way to make fun of its supporters.

I would like to nominate this post as the most un-useful, insensitive piece of garbage I’ve seen thus far. Do us and yourself a favor, go away.

As for the original poster, look for employment away from the construction sector but a related field in which your skills could be put to work. I strongly recommend the surveillance, alarm, and access control industry (low-voltage integrations as a whole) Your knowledge of construction is crucial, even more so than the technical low-voltage skills (anyone can learn that).

It's an industry that actually seems to strengthen as economies weaken as a whole. Starting pay could run you about 15 or so an hour, however, the field is certainly one for promotion without having the degree next to your name.

You can also consider working with local integrators as a rough-in (wiring) contractor. They can typically pay up to 30-35 dollars a pull. I know people who have made VERY good money if they keep their taxes in check.

Good luck and feel free to ask any questions in any of that peaks your interest.

Here's a tip. Focus on rebuilding your credit ASAP. If you play your cards right, you can have a good score 1-2 years after filing Ch. 7.

- My apologies for MY sarcasm about Des Moines. If that money comment was sincere, I'm sorry. If you were being sarcastic, I don't have time for it. To me, time really is money.

- burgerflipper- Thank you for the suggestion. You know, I might be getting a little old for some of the work that's involved with constuction anyway.

-Bosco55David- Thank you your suggestion. It's already in the works.
