Default Rental comparison Davenport vs. IC

Hello all. Could anyone tell me if renting an apartment in Davenport is anything like renting in Iowa City - needing to sign a lease months in advance of moving in. Is it just that way in Iowa City due to all of the college students? Basically, if I need to find an apartment for August, should I be ok just coming two weeks before? Also, any neighborhood recommendations for a school teacher would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

While Davenport's rental situation is totally different from Iowa City's because of the lack of 30,000 college students, 2 weeks might be pushing it. Rentals are in pretty high demand everywhere these days, and I know that some places have to do credit, background, and/or rental history checks that can take a few days.

Im sure you can find somewhere in 2 weeks, but most GOOD apartments you would actually want to live in, have to do background checks, job check, rental history, and all that good stuff. Are you a grade school, middle, or high school teacher? I can give you some apartments close to some of the schools around here.

You can find an apartment in one day if you go to the neighborhood behind Old Chicago in Bettendorf. Some people call it ghetto but that's just because there are a black families around. Not drug dealing or gang banging type ghetto. The neighborhood I'm talking about sits on the Bett./Dav. border, easy access to Kimberly road and I-74. Grant Wood elementary and Bettendorf Middle School are within a few blocks.

Hi Royal, uhh...this is the second time writing this message, so bare with me since the first one got erased as I was sending it, lol. We signed with Kimberly Club apartments right before we moved in so you do not have to wait months. BUT, I will tell you to stay away from Kimberly Club (Barker apartments) - seriously. We always paid on time (automatic withdrawl) and kept the place in great condition, but when we moved out, they turned into the apartment complex from hell.

When we moved out, I cleaned that place top to bottom inside and out. But, the manager still ripped up the carpet and charged me over $850.00. That is CRAZY - I can carpet my mother's 2,000 sf house for that. The carpet was in great condition and only needed a cleaning. It had normal wear and tear and was freyed along the edges when we moved in (which I put on the move-in sheet). When I asked for an explanation the manager said that the life of the carpet is 8 years so it costs them x amount of dollars per year and that there was 3 years left before it should have had to been replaced. So then she goes and charges me for FIVE years of carpet cost instead of 3? It was all a lie anyway because the carpet was in great condition - I would have paid for a cleaning and maybe a little extra if she was going to be crazy about it, but she is unreasonable. She only decided to do that because there was no other way to get money out of me. As I said, I kept that apartment in great condition and the only other thing they could charge me for was a spot on the bathroom wall - which she wanted to charge me $25 dollars for. It was insane. She even reported me to the credit agencies for not wanting to pay almost $900 for damages that never happened.

They will lure you in with a gym and pool, etc. However, let me tell you that there is only a few good pieces of equipment in that gym and you will have a hard time getting on one of those as they are always taken. Also, swim at your own risk. My husband is not a good swimmer and accidentally went a little to far out and the man that worked there literally kept watching TV as my husband almost drown a few feet away from him.

I also had to call the police 3 times on our neighbors for being loud. Just stay away from there!!!
