Chatham's population in 2005 was 10,260. .8% of that is 821 people. This is plus or minus 205 households. Let's not ask for a predominately black neighborhood that is crime free and then make up statistics to discount that neighborhood. Chatham Illinois fits the bill. Could the correlation between crime and the cities you've mentioned here be poverty and not race? |

On the other hand, is it racist to point out the obvious? (I.e. Black and Hispanic communities are drug, crime and gang ridden?) Is that racist? That actually is a good question. Also, black people certainly do not welcome whites into their neighborhoods, at least not where I am from. You will experience nothing but pure hatred and intimidation in the black neighborhoods here in Omaha. Now, being black in a white neighborhood here is the opposite. Whites in Omaha are overly nice to minorities because they don't want to be labeled as a racist or fall victim to B.S. lawsuits. You know, this is kind of funny because we can argue racism all day but there will never be a final outlook on it that everyone can agree on. People see racism from their experience and viewpoints. One thing is for sure though; I think white people are pretty tired of being labeled racist and the race card being played against them. Political correctness is only going to last for so long and so far the whites are the only ones expected to adhere to the P.C. rules. |

Correction. Not patronizing, but fake nice. One side acts fake nice passing as liiberal while the other side behaves with open hostility. That is what I meant to say.

The 2000 census says Chatham has .77% black people out of 8,583.
This equals 66 people. the 2005 Special Census found a little over 10,000 - but it didn't give a racial breakdown, so I used the official 2000 numbers. Even if we take the same rate at the new census numbers, we're still only talking about 80 people. Anyway......we're talking less than ONE percent black here....it's a very random town to choose when talking about safe black neighborhoods. I don't see how this town has anything to do with the topic at hand....we might as well start talking about black neighborhoods in Indianola, Iowa - cause it has 52 black people... |

At least a few thousand grouped into one area, i.e. the Forest/MLK area of Des Moines. |

More interesting to me would be a comparison between the number of dangerous non-white neighborhoods vs. the number of white-run-meth labs in this state. This is Iowa. I haven't found a neighborhood yet where I would feel unsafe. |
