You say created, others would beg to differ. Lets say....stole the land (oh, my bad, renegotiated the terms for those who were already here first), incorporated reservations, segregated it, imposed selective sanctions upon anyone different language, culture and ethnicity or color. And yes, I am A-M-E-R-I-C-A-N default ( I am only american due to slavery, by time abolishment came about, we were unwelcomed in Africa and slightly tolerated in America) and A-F-R-I-C-A-N by descent. And as far as you not "getting" my point, let me clarify it. ALL MINORITIES ARE NOT THE ILK OF SOCIETY. I gave clear and concise examples of the shoe being on the other foot. The posts regarding promoting Iowa to minorities; which included bashing minorities from chicago/projects and hispanics, minorities exploiting the Iowa Welfare System, and their lack of enriching the lives of others, "it is disheartening." This is not the best place in United States to live, and it is not the worst. It is fair. And like you stated {El Rhino>>"but we're the ones who created the country as it is today"}. If you truly stand by your statement, then the "we" that you speak of is responsible for the racism, classism, unemployment, and resentment felt by some minorities. But the perceived notion of minorities coming here to exploit the "benefits", thats absurd. Any Welfare system promotes a generational cycle of poverty. But thats enough of that, we can all agree to disagree and learn from eachother.

No one said that all minorities are the ilk of society.
How did white folks NOT create this country as we know it today? If we never came, do you think that this society as we know it would exist on this piece of land or would it just be a large New Guinea? Are we responsible for the minorities' resentment, racism, unemployment, etc? I don't know. I'm sure virtually all minorities have a better gig in the US of A than they do in their native lands. |

If I were to move to Iowa, it wouldn't be for the welfare benefits. There are people that need them, but I would be embarrased to be on welfare. I would never use welfare if I could help it, but as an African-American, what I am afraid of is the majority of residents stereotyping me as "welfare case" or going to a place specifically for welfare. That is not what I do. I understand that some people need welfare, and I also understand abuse of welfare happens, but I don't want to be associate with abusing welfare.

I'd just like to point out that I'm not racist and I wasn't trying to group all familys from Chicago into one stereotype.
I was discussing a select group of people who I know are taking advantage of the governments welfare system. One woman even explained to me how she does it. It's a horrid thing. I work in a grant school. Every day I sit and look at children whose lives could be so much better if their parents would get off their asses and do something. But the only thing they're being taught at home is how to lie to their workers and take advantage of the systems. There is no excuse not to better yourself. |

Can we designate a new race of people not identified by color, religion or any other specifics other than just being a DIRTBAG? Maybe a higher percentage of certain races are on welfare or contribute to crime or whatever....but stereotyping certainly isn't the way to go. I think all people who are mentally and physically able to work and contribute to society and choose not to should receive a tattoo on his or her forehead signifying their unwillingness to contribute to our society. We can then be as racist as we would like because regardless of their color, that person would be a dirt bag and deserves to be an outcast of society. There would then be no reason for any of us to ***** and complain about what other people are doing because we would no longer have ignorant people able to hide behind their stereotypes and generalizations. That goes for blacks, whites, browns, greens ...what the hell ever.... All that's being accomplished here is pissing each other off and EL RHINO, just because you are white doesn't mean you necessarily have done jack S*HIT to contribute to this deteriorating society as we know it.

I found this part pretty funny, Mr. W. EL RHINO, just because you are white doesn't mean you necessarily have done jack S*HIT to contribute to this deteriorating society as we know it. You're right.... but I can let my actions speak for me as far as what I've done to contribute to society. |

What about a college student whose experience in another state has soiled his perception of that state and is currently looking for another state to take residence in? I don't believe Iowa is perfect, but will I be assumed as a welfare case if I go to Iowa?

I call it the underground railroad, only in reverse. 3rd world citizens are brought in to do the "jobs Americans won't do" Is this diversity or modern day slavery?
Some people think Iowa needs to be more diverse, I have to ask why? Is it because a white Iowa is no good? Wouldn't that in itself be racism? Is it because the real world is diverse? Iowa is a real place. The food? |

Why should America be held accountable for what you call modern day slavery? They're here because we are providing a better opportunity than their home country can provide. Yeah they get paid lower wages but when you consider no taxes aren’t taken out and a good portion of the money is being sent to a place where its much more spendable than it is in the US its not bad at all.
I completely agree Iowa is just fine the way it is. Nothing ever NEEDS to be more diverse. What for, so the minorities living here feel more comfortable? Iowa is just fine and a majority white population is not a bad thing at all. |
