I am just finishing school and planning to relocate to the Ames area. Was just wondering for employers what there is in general in Ames,Iowa? Also was wondering about the surrounding towns as well.? Thank you

Iowa State University is probably a big employer. Probably some hospitals as well. The surrounding towns are mainly small rural towns.

There's quite a few central Iowan's that provide good input on HeyIowa.com.
AmesTalk.com is a part of that network and some of the members would likely have some good input for you. One of the largest employers in Ames is the Iowa Department of Tranportation. |

The nice thing about Ames is that you get the small town AND college town all in one, with close proximity to Des Moines.
