Hi Arrabella!

From what I recall my aunt had trouble getting out during the winter due to the parking lot not being cleared and salted early enough. The rickety wooden steps that lead to the door of her apt building were usually icy and dangerous during the winter when we went to visit. I did live on Grand around the 3200 block and had no problems. Some of the buildings were older, but alot of them boast ALL utilities paid. If you have children it is not the greatest area due to the lack of play areas and other children. But, if you are single and looking to sock away a little money, it is just fine. The bad area is more to the east of University (which does not include Grand) and between 6th ave and up to perhaps 27th Str. In fact the apartments on 3200 Grand and up are situated among a very wealthy area full of older homes that look more like beautiful mansions with huge yards. It is a very beautiful area to take a walk in.

I agree w/this description of the 3200 blk of Grand.....I have friends in that area right now. It is not the same area as 24th and University...... (Come to think of it, I still have friends that live there too....big difference!) The homes on this part of Grand are some of the nicest authentic older homes (not all new constr. like WDSM) and you will find the area filled with affluent types. Great places to walk/run!

Default Urbandale

I am from Urbandale until recently but would highly recommend Urbandale over West Des Moines. You get a lot more for your money and not near as much crazy traffic!

Thanks so much for all your advice, everybody. We have made it to Urbandale from Michigan and are settled at Sherwood Glen. Will work with the LL to make happy relations.
Has anyone ever visited the Living History Farm located down Hickman RD in Urbandale? I do civil war civilian reenacting and am very interested in any living history places nearby. Arrabella.
