You don't need a degree to work with homeless people, just go to the corner of Hwy 1 and Riverside dr. in Iowa City. Seriously though just go to school for 2 more years it will fly by, then move to TX.

UT-Austin has become very difficult to get into, especially if you're transferring anything from out of state. Do a search on "10% law". Getting into UTSA not as tough (yet).

University of Iowa is a good school, and it has an excellent psychology program. And the plus side is, if you still want to go to Texas when you're done, you can. With a college education that will help you get a job. I like Iowa City, it's definitely a good city to make friends in, and there are lots of independent bands in IC who may be looking for someone.
The thing about college is...you have to take chances. This is your chance to get out there and make new friends, expand your horizons, and have fun in life while you get your degree. You're lonely because you've been holing yourself up! Get out there and socialize! Whatever you decide, Texas or Iowa...don't limit yourself in life to just the people and things you know. Experience new things and take chances.
