A while back I posted one of those "where should I live in Des Moines?" threads. My husband and I (freelance journalist and teacher, respectively) are moving from Brooklyn, NY to the 4th Street condo development.
1) Thanks for all the great advice about downtown neighborhoods! We liked them all, so we're living in the middle of the action. We're so psyched to be part of this community.
2) My husband, Marc, is a very talented music writer. He recently started a new Des Moines music blog, "Des Noise," that I hope you will check out and pass along to friends. The Des Moines music scene has a lot going on (great summer shows!!!) and it will get even better with more exposure and better attendance.
