I don't have my camping gear with me right now because it is in storage with most of my personal possessions i.e. furniture a good 300 miles from here. If I decide to do an overnight I'll stay in a local motel.

It looks like there are far better hiking opportunities within spitting distance of Omaha than Kansas City. Wish I had known that when I lived there.
You miss us now don't you? Muahahaha, lol.

Now seriously, Waubonsie is nice, thats where I would go if I were you, or Mahoney in Nebraska, though that may be a bit far for you and I've never hiked there personally.

Well, based upon previous posts and discussions we had on this issue, I think I am on the record as saying the Omaha area was boring. I don't recall ever saying I hated the people. And to me it will still be boring to some degree because I am not the kind of person that likes to utilize a lot of newer man made entertainment facilities. I'm a self starter and usually create my own fun and activities if I am not enjoying something out of doors.

It's the Kansas City region that I am less than enthusiastic about the people. I've never really had any awful experiences with the people in Nebraska or Iowa. Certainly there are far better hiking areas within an hour of Omaha than KC. Who knows, I may end up having to stay out in this part of the country because of the economy. I may not be able to relocate back to the Northeast due to the lack of jobs. If things sour even more in KC then perhaps I will look to relocate to your area. I could work in the city but live in a smaller city or town some distance from Omaha. There are plenty of small rural towns on the Iowa side and possibly some suitable towns or small cities in Nebraska that won't be too far from work. And who knows, I may find a market for my puny radio station.

.
I second the boring part. My idea for outdoor fun is boating on a large clean lake. Not offered here.
