Probably a bigger deal in Des Moines then, as a lot of it is made up of small town Iowa.

I came from small town Iowa, too. What's your point?

I just saw an article today in the Washington Post Express about that. Oh, here we go.. MJ, this and that. Not that I object to people being fans of the guy but taking the time to create a butter sculpture... Really now. If I did something like that I could just hear my Mom saying, 'don't you have anything else better to do with your time?"

Well, it's a fair tradition. Every year a lady sculpts a cow and one or two other things out of butter. I think last year it was a butter Shawn Johnson, the Olympic gymnast. This year it's an astronaut to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Apollo 11. I think the sculptor thought about including Michael Jackson as a memorial (and the whole moonwalk theme).
It's really not a big deal. But personally, I'm glad it got voted down. I'd much rather honor Neil Armstrong than MJ.

Michael Jackson was a weird-O and exploited children, probably because he was "exploited" as a child in more ways than we will ever get the truth about. The hush money of $10 million paid out to the family of the boy he molested should of been a no-brainer, with regards to the decision to honor him in cholesterol at our state fair.
They could do one of Prince if they want to honor an eccentric black guy from 80's pop culture. Prince kept pace with MJ and had just as many hits, if not more. But they should never call him "The King" as that title goes to Elvis.
I think El Rhino's suggestion of Ed McMahon was a good one. I remember how Johnny Carson put Cooper on the map by covering the "Cooper Iowa Centennial Celebration" back in the early 80's, if anyone still remembers how big that was.

I ask. Who's the one with the problem? Those that live here and are happy with it, or the one guy who continually supplies drival on various forums (at least until he gets banned....again) on how backwards Iowa is and yet doesn't move away to greener pastures?

That's what some people believe about West Virginia but there are places even in Virginia that will make you think the same. I'm sure it's true in places like California and New York as well.

I still think you're reading into this way wrong....it's front page news as a "lite" story or a fluff piece of happenings around the state.
This isn't NEWS NEWS like a murder, school shutting down or a fatal traffic accident. There's a big difference.
99.2% of people care as much about this story as something serious in their lives as much as they'd care about whether their neighbors painted their living room dark red or gold. They might have an opion....but whatever.
