Iowa is definitely a Hawkeye state. It will be interesting to see if the Cyclones new football coach can change that. I'm from CA and chose ISU for my master's, fwiw. I really like the laid back local feel at ISU.

I can't tell you about Council Bluffs, but Des Moines is definitely Cyclone country.

What do a Hawkeye fan and Cyclone fan have in common? Neither of them attended U of I.
I'd say Des Moines is close to 50/50. Eastern Iowa is heavily Hawkeye. I lived in north central Iowa for years, and it leans Hawkeyes as well.

I live in Texas, and there are huge groups that support the Hawkeyes down here!! One of the biggest is in San Antonio, and then here in Dallas also ... I have NEVER seen a group that supports Iowa State down here. Most of my family are Cyclones because they went to school there, my sister and I jumped ship and became Hawk fans, she got a degree from there to show her loyalty, I got a tattoo
Go HAWKS!! It's almost football season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What does that mean? Do they walk around in packs like wolves in their black and gold t-shirts so you've been able to see them roaming the streets?
ISU has alumni groups in Texas.

Even if I was, why would anyone care about this intangible of a number?
I've only seen more Cyclone fans myself, and I think proximity to Ames explains this. I remember meeting some kids from Des Moines area at Iowa when I was there and asking them "so how many kids from your high school class came here" they'd say like 9 or 10, then the "most kids where I'm from goto ISU".
I do remember meeting a lot of people who specifically went to WDM Valley, but very few from other schools in the area.
That's enough right there for me.

How would you compare Ia-ISU one-sidedness with the likes of:
KU-K St
OU-OSU
U-M - MSU
IU - Pur
and the like. What is interesting is that the others, unlike in Iowa, are made up of schools in the same conference. There are very few of such rivalries like the one in Iowa, notably UF-FSU.
Thus Big Ten-Big 12 enters into the picture in a way that you don't find in other midwestern states.
My sense is that both IU-Purdue and U-M - MSU are much more balanced, I'm pretty sure on these. As for the others, KSU's football success, though faded, keeps it more head to head with KU and that it seems that OK St seems to hold its own vs. OU, although OU is clearly dominant.
How would you guys rate how Ia-ISU compare with these?

When I lived in Des Moines a couple years ago, I saw more Iowa State gear on cars and in yards than I did Hawkeye gear, so I always assumed ISU was dominant there. I'm originally from Shelby County in west-central Iowa and there were some Iowa fans but Iowa State largely dominated, with a mix of Nebraska fans.
Eastern Iowa is by and large mostly Iowa. I see some Iowa State bumper stickers and shirts here and there, but you can't swing a dead cat without hitting an Iowa fan here in Cedar Rapids. (I'm a Stater myself)

think you will find that most farmrs are ISU fans and a lot of town folk are iowa fans~ based on what the predominate degrees are. However I think you will find that because they belong to different leagues most people cheer for both untill they play each other~ then all bets are off!
