Default Brick Collecting in Iowa

Hi, I'm a journalism student at the University of Iowa and I just randomly learned about the hobby of brick collecting and I'd really love to do a story on the subject since it seems so interesting. Does anyone know someone (or maybe they themselves do it) who collects bricks and would like to tell me a little bit about it?

thanks!

I don't collect bricks but when I was preparing my mother's 1910 house for sale in Abilene, TX, last year, I found a stack of bricks in the back yard with "Abilene" baked into them.

Yep. My sister, BIL and I took them. I graduated from Abilene High back in the dark ages and could not resist.

We didn't know that years ago Abilene was quite well known for its bricks.

Never heard of it. What do you do with the bricks when you have them? Pile them in the yard? Build a wall?

Must be a real hassle if you move too. If you had a large brick collection it would take a while to box them up. And, the cost of having movers come and move the brcks would cost a fortune, since they charge by weight...

I never even thought about the whole moving part! It'd be like having a lumber collection!
