It's a smaller campus and student body than the other Catholic college, Loras, and is about the same size as the Presbetyrian-affiliated University of Dubuque. It does have some very respected programs; physical therapy and education are the best, and I think business and nursing are pretty good, too. The campus is small, it's basically the buildings along the road that it's located on and the land behind them on either side, (see map on website) the upside being that if you're on the side of the street with the main academic buildings you never have to go outside in the winter. Most of the campus was destroyed by fire in the 1980's, so you have a mix of old and new buildings all connected to each other. If you want info on something specific just post and I'll try to help.

didn't a former president of Upper Iowa University go to work at one of the colleges in Dubuque, probably Dubuque Uinversity and not Clarke. I heard that Dubuque Univ. was contemplating setting up an extension program in Asia but that could have been scuttled.

I love Dubuque, Iowa. It has the Mississippi River, and beautiful cliffs, parks and the paddle wheel boats and they've just rennovated the river front where there are many "tourist" attractions. There's a dog track, a huge mall and movie theatres. Galena, Ill. (ANOTHER GOOD CHOICE) is only 15 minutes away east on highway 20 -- lots of victorian houses and President Grant's home. If you head north up the road that runs along the river from Dubuque you get to Guttenberg, Iowa and eventually Prairie du Chien, WI and beautiful Pikes Peak State Park, and the Indian mounds. Northeastern Iowa has a lot of scenic places and beauty.

We are moving to Dubuque from Cartersville, Georgia, about 40 minutes N of atlanta on I75. My grandparents live in the Dubuque area, and the rest of my family as well either lives down in Bellevue, IA, or in northern Illinois, so the move to Dubuque I hope will be a pleasent one. I am only in high school so, I know a lot about Dubuque, I spend a lot of time there, it is very scenic, and KKK activity, there may be a few nasty looks. But, its mostly gone. There are a few crappy neighborhoods by the colleges downtown but thats it. CRIME; almost unheard of... which will be a BIG change from Cartersville because atlanta has influxed its way up to Norhwest GA, almost to Rome. WELL, I hope Ive helped.

Dubuque Information
Knoxfd, I just joined City-Data, so I'm not sure if you're still looking for information or not. I live in Dubuque, and I can tell you that the city and the schools are both wonderful. The schools rank above the state average, which is, in turn, well above the national average, so there's nothing to worry about there. I went through the public school system, so I know. Another plus, the job market is fantastic, as well. Dubuque's economy was the 22nd-fastest growing in the country last year, and the fastest-growing in the Midwest. You're also in luck with the accounting/finance department. If you're looking for a job, in Dubuque. They are growing quite fast, and are constantly hiring new people. You'll also take comfort in the fact that the crime rate is very low. If you're living just outside the city, may I suggest Asbury or Peosta, as they are very clean and family-friendly. Most areas of the city proper are clean and friendly, but the West Side neighborhoods are especially so. I hope this helps.
