Dubuque IBM (Colo: how much, place to live, restaurants)

I'm hoping someone could shed some light on how the work enviorment at IBM is, any help/details would be appreciated.

Whatever the culture feels like now is really not going to help as the number of people currently working there is going to increase so significantly as they continue to hire. I've worked in a new department of a company before and saw how much it changed as more people came in. As for the work area, from what I've heard it is set up as your typical cubie office. The building itself is a huge historic building that is being renovated by IBM. Most people work normal office hours but there are technical specialists which have to provide 24/7 coverage and rotate shifts to do so. Since it is in the middle of downtown, there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance, but parking is scarce.

Understandable, things do tend to change with more people being brought in, I just don't want to land in a situation where the work culture/environment is less than appealing & they treat the people that work there as subhuman

I thought very few worked normal Monday - Friday office hours. I believe the majority work 12 hour days and nights.

The schedules are really dependent on what department you end up in. I know one person whose department(highly technical) works 4 - 10 hr shifts that include every other weekend and rotates between all three shifts every four months. I know another group that works strictly M-F on first shift. It is something to ask about when you get an interview.

I work there and it is great. The people are easy going all computers types but not in a geeky way. The town is very outgoing and it is nice place all the way around

Sounds good, I'm moving there myself to start in February and it seemed like a nice place to live.The town has all of the dept stores that we like, and quite a few restaurants, actually more than we thought.
