Default Gay people are accepted in Dubuque

My first week here I watched 2 men getting married at the clock tower. That is right in the center of town. There was nobody complaining or making a stink about it. I hope that eases concerns for the newbies here in DBQ that are members of the gay community.

Thats been a pretty consistent sight in a lot of cities in Iowa since April. Years of pent up demand and all. Yay for equality. I just moved back after 4 years and Texas and I don't know what it is, but people here are just over that issue. My bf and I can hold hands in public without a second look. Even the vast majority of people in the small towns I grew up around really couldn't care less. Most of them are my facebook friends

Wow-- that's great! You know, it really is interesting how something like equality can make a place look more inviting. I have heard that Iowa is a beautiful state-- now, the fact that I can go there as an individual who happens to be gay is even better. =)

I have to say that I'm pleasantly surprised by this. I would think that because Iowa is more middle of the road that they wouldn't be as accepting, but this is good to hear!
