gun rights means you as a law abiding adult citizen may keep and bear arms in order to preserve yourself or a loved one from harm .

Gun rights in the vast majority of locales of Iowa is a Fiction.

Don't take my word for it, research it.

Lots of chambers of commerce may cloud the issue, and I've experienced a sheriffs office do the same thing here in Cherokee county.

Iowa is a MAY ISSUE STATE. May issue means PROBABLY NOT!

that means that you do not have the RIGHT here. Here your right is not
respected.

Mike T.

ps... better states for your rights include S. Dakota, Minnesota, North Dakota,
Wyoming, and Montana.

Nebraska is better but has some significant glitches where cities may deny you the rights that the state upholds.... that is called "opt out" .

If you believe that all of your constitutional rights are Absolute, Inviolable, Not subject to someone elses prejudices, Forget Iowa.

Not too terribly surprising to me.. Iowa never struck me as a freedom-oriented state.

As opposed to Chicago? Cook county is notorius for it's anti gun leadership.

I was gonna say, Iowa has actually been way on top of Illinois as far as personal freedoms. - and I live in Illinois.

I wonder how many people would factor gun rights in deciding whether or not to move to a state?

If I was in the Washington DC area, protecting my family by having the right to own a gun would rank right at the top.

You have about a 1 in 75,000 chance of being murdered in Iowa. It's normally one of the three safest states in the country. Even last year with the murder spike, some of the murders might have actually been prevented (domestic dispute) if the killer hadn't had access to a gun.

I'm not trying to voice one way or the other - but not moving to Iowa because of gun laws (in which you still CAN get a gun!) with the reason of safety and protection should definitely be very low on your list of priorities.

I'm not a gun kinda guy, and I don't care either way, but half the people I know in Iowa own guns. I know a dude in his 20's who goes to a shooting range in Princeton, Iowa and shoots the hell out of crazy stuff like old televisons, bowling balls, etc. with 9mm handguns, shotguns, all kinds of guns. And he owns them all legally.

My Aunt married a guy who has his own arsenal. Everytime I go over there he's bragging about a new gun. And I'm talking Dirty Harry Desert Eagle type guns.

Iowa seems pretty relaxed about gun laws to me.
