Default Des Moines- established neighborhoods with character & good schools?
where are the neighborhoods in/near Des Moines that have older homes with character, but also within a great school district? i'm a little confused about schools in Des Moines as well...any info would be appreciated.

I would say the South of Grand area if you're loaded, North of Grand (Ingersoll, Polk Blvd, 42nd street area) is good and the Southwest side around Lincoln High and the airport for a little less money.
