Lone Tree Iowa/Iowa City (Riverside: real estate, rentals, school district)

We're thinking of moving to Lone Tree, IA from the Quad Cities.
We want to move to be closer to family and so my hubby can by closer to work (At Riverside Casino).

Can anyone tell me about Lone Tree? If I were to attend the University in Iowa City would the commute be okay?

Any info is great - thanks!

(we're especially interested in getting information about housing rentals as well, as it seems pretty hard to get that online)

They aren't that far apart, so I wouldn't think the commute would be bad. Most people I know commute 30-45 min to work though (I don't live up there now). So it's all relative.

Lone Tree is tops 20 minutes away from Iowa City. The commute is nice actually. Just enough time to shift your mind accordingly. Some nice scenery along the way. I think you will love the area. Good Luck

The commute from Lone Tree to Iowa City is fine (4 lane). Also from Lone Tree to the Riverside Casino would be a very easy commute (two-lane, but just a few miles). I just moved from rural Riverside (a few miles from the casino, although on the other side of interstate 380) and lived in Iowa City for a long time so am familiar with the areas.

The rent in Lone Tree would be a lot cheaper than Iowa City. There wouldn't probably be a lot of rentals available, because it's a tiny town, but there would be some. You won't find any online. Check out the local paper or ask local people. The school district is iffy, if that's an issue (part of the reason the rent and real estate values are cheaper). But lots of people live there and drive to IC.

One of my professors used to teach English at Lone Tree. She said it was an ok school, but very very small. I say "used to" because she quit and went to Iowa City--City because she didn't like having to teach 4 different grades of English classes a day. So I agree with "schools are iffy".

Lone Tree is ok if that's what you want to do. However, I think I'd be easier all-around for you to get a place on the south-west side of Iowa City. You'd be close to the university, and he could just fly down the four-lane Hwy. 218 to work. It'd be especially a lot easier when the snow starts flyin' (about two weeks from now), and the weather gets bad.
