IRAN No place for democracy and human rights in Islam, says Qom theologian - Asia News

Remember, Islam is not just a religion. It encompasses a religious system, a political system, an economic system, a legal system, and a social system. Western concepts of separation of religion from government are anathema to Islam and, therefore, concepts of equality, human rights, and respect for others’ beliefs are also anathema.

Which ultimately makes it an insidious evil as it goes against everything we hold dear to us in the western world, freedoms.

These are all embedded in the dogma of Islam, and therefore cannot be changed. This is also why it is so difficult to establish a secular government in an Islamic area, and why Islamic fundamentalists and radicals will almost always attempt to undermine any secular authority - or gain sufficient numbers and influence to change it via the democratic process and thereby impose Islamic customs to replace Western ideas.

I think Islam is funadamentally incompatible with Western culture, but that does not mean they cannot somehow coexist - I just don't see how to get there from where we are now.
