It's irrelevant that the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic were communist rather than socialist. It's also irrelevant that the Baath party wasn't really socialist, either.

The point was, during the cold war Iraq was not an ally of the U.S., they were a soviet client state which made them the U.S.'s enemy. That's why your whole point about how we installed Saddam was wildly incorrect.

You're right; it is indeed irrelevant because both Russia and America use every other foreign nation as a pawn in their cold war.
Too bad the commies are no more.
Hence the ridiculous war on terror.

I guess this is the main reason why Americans wanna portray the Muslim people as the new ( and improved) threat to the free world and democracy (read: the US of A).

I guess I missed the part where Fox news explained the American citizens that the terrorists who planned that are in Iraq.
Besidez, you can't sell guns if there's no enemy right?

Terrorism was not a major rational given for the invasion of Iraq. Iraq was invaded because of their failure to comply with the terms of the cease-fire from Deseret Storm in numerous respects. The sanctions were failing, and in a post 9-11 world, the decision was made that a latent threat would not be allowed to grow more powerful.

Had the Europeans not tried to remove the sanctions off Iraq, (which is what was preventing Saddam from reconstituting his nuclear program), there was a chance the U.S. would not have invaded Iraq. As it was, the Europeans wanted the oil from Iraq, so they pushed for the removal of all sanction based on a cynical appeal on humanitarian grounds. This left the U.S with the option of allowing Saddam to grow in power with the sanctions lifted, or attacking Iraq to remove the threat. Post 9-11 calculations demanded an attack.

I would debate this with you in more detail, but you are woefully ignorant of history and world affairs, and so you would only jump from non-sequitur to non-sequitur making fashionably anti-american comments. You are not equipped to make substantive comments on this subject.

Never the less, you can't sell guns without an enemy right?
I mean what if people were actually able to end their differences through debate?
I guess this would be the American war industry worst nightmare.

Why should Europe be against Iraq having nuclear weapons?
Israel has them, Russia has them, France and Britain too.
If I'm not mistaken even you Americans have stored a few here in the Netherlands near a base I live.
So why should I be worried that Iraq would have them too?
I stopped worrying about the bomb a long time ago.
Granted I wish the damn thing was never invented, but I've learned to love the bomb.

We Americans have had them longer than anyone, but haven't used them in 65 years. Will you trust Iraq (or even more, Iran!) not to use theirs for so long? You won't love it when one vaporizes you.

There certainly is an enormous amount of ignorance in his posts and an equally abundant amount of anti-American vitriol. Put him on ignore.
