Where is it mentioned that Allah wants women to cover their faces?

IIRC it isn't. The admonition is to cover the hair. However, the misogynistic Islamic religious leaders changed it in order to more easily suppress women.

All I could find is a command that their bosom be covered.

I don't know the koran nearly as well as I know the christian's book of myths, but I do think the hair-covering thing is in there. I'll look around if I have time today and see if I can find the direct quote. But, I'm sure we'll have one of our resident muslim spammers jump in on this one as soon as they see it, and then the deluge of cut-and-paste quotes will begin again.

A hijab doesn't cover one's face.

Ya gotta get that Muslim-garment terminology down. I see a lot of confusion on here about that stuff. Could lead to wardrobe malfunctions.

I figure the University of Michigan is a good source. Here is the appropriate chapter (24): The Koran

I think they want you to read verse 31, but I couldn't resist the temptation to read some of the other parts on that page. Absolutely frightful. Subject for another discussion.

Hijab's Protection

Surat Al-'Ahzab [33:59] - The Holy Qur'an

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful:
"O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful."

Hijab, niqab, burka, durka etc Not sure which is which.

It looks like they command that the hair be covered, but what about the face? From where did they get the idea the face must also be covered?

Well, since most Muslim women don't cover their faces, that's probably a cultural thing depending upon the country or region.
