Situations like this one right here are why the U.S. media/tabloids are afraid to oppose and/or use Islam and their god in a negative light as they do with other religions. This is a direct and fear based encroachment on our country's First Amendment freedoms. Islam may never take over the U.S. as they wish it to, but it's existence in this country has other far reaching effects on our freedoms. And the PM of Denmark couldn't believe that someone would do this. Well sir, when you create a monster, you have to be prepared to handle it.

So, why is it exactly that Islam is the only world religion that gets physically violent when their God/Prophet is used in satire or other forms of publishing/media? After all, I thought the Muslim faith was based on peace and tolerance as SO MANY Muslims on CD swear by.

We are at war with extremists of the Muslim faith and all who support extremists. Make no mistake about that.

I think many religions go through a fanatical phase early in their development. The Christians had their crusades and such.
It's just unfortunate that Islam is going through it right now. It also has to do with the barbaric, primitive cultures of the Islamic nations. This is really a shame, because before the Renaissance Muslim countries were considered more advanced than their European backwater neighbors. While the rest of the world progresses, they remain stagnant.

The other issue is with the ability (through the internet) to become widespread and spread the violent jihad across the globe is problematic. The Early Christian history did not have that ability.

It makes Jihad/extremist Islam much more dangerous. Add to this this view of being PC and ignoring the danger democratic and secular nations face.

The U.S. and Europe (along with many other nations) are moving forward in the 21st century. If they want to stay in the stone age, why try to stop them.

But, where I do have a problem, is when they try to shut down our freedoms using tactics of fear and intimidation through violence, and the bloodshed of innocents. They are not just at war with other religions. They are, at their core, at war with ANY religion, idea, freedom, or lifestyle that goes against their strict belief structure (aka - the belief structures used in most first world progressive nations).

Once again, though, going back to the original main question. Why are muslims so sensitive about the depiction of their prophet and prone to violence when other religions just go with the flow and treat it as water under the bridge when faced with those same issues? If the strict tenets of Islam forbid virtually all things enjoyed in western cultures, why do they flock to the U.S., Europe, and Australia? To me, that seems quite counter productive. Maybe they want the best of both worlds at our expense.....

No really, Muslims will bring about world peace...as soon as everyone in the world is a Muslim.

Not really. Then there will be the in fighting between the different sects. Can you imagine what the U.S. would be like if Baptists, Methodists, Lutherans, and Protestants were all trying to off each other? Take that thought and apply it to a world population of purely muslims.

I did a google and found this answer for you:
They prohibit pictures of Allah and Muhammad to be put in mosques because they think they are praising a picture, not the real Allah and Muhammad. So they don't allow them because they don't want to praise just a picture, they want to praise the real Allah and Muhammad.

Very interesting. Thank's for the link. I've heard it is because it could begin to promote idolatry. Those two might be the same thing. But what I really want to find out, particularly from a muslim, is why they feel that Islam has the right to impede on the freedom of press of societies who do not place the same emphasis on their shared belief structure.

It is obvious that Islam and those that are not of Islam share very different values. Yet, no other religions extremists go to the same length that those of Islam do to retaliate to pictures of their god/prophet being put on display. I'm trying to understand what drives them to a level of violence in which they will kill innocent people over an illustration.

Showing images of Muhammad is forbidden because early muslims saw that Christians worshipped images of Jesus and they wanted to keep that from happening to Muhammad. They did not want Muhammad to be turned into G-d as they felt had happened in Christianity with the worship of Jesus.

The issues I believe is the idea of honor and maintaining ones honor. To show their prophet in ways that are less then flattering are seen as an attack on the honor of Islam and the prophet.

The way to fix ones honor once it has been disparaged is through death. So women are killed for bringing dishonor to their families. People who bring dishonor to Islam and the prophet run the risk of the same behavior being directed against them.

This behavior actually is tribal and pre-dates Islam. Pre Islamic Arabia was a very violent place with tribal feuds being common place.
