OK, it seems as if anything that is not explained in the Qur'an is also not explained in the hadith books. So hadith books are out on this one!

How about Tafsir Ibn Kathir:

(Yes, We are able to put together in perfect order the tips of his fingers.) meaning, `does man think that We will not gather his bones Surely, We will gather them and We are quite able to put together his fingertips. This means Our power is suitable to gather (and recreate) them, and if We wished We could surely resurrect him with more than what he originally had. We could make his Banan, which are the tips of his fingers, all equal (in length).'

So even Ibn Kathir could only guess and come up with only fingers being of equal length. But the verse is about restoring man's "fingertips" in perfect order as they were before his death and resurrection. Nothing to do with the length of fingers!

How about Tafsir of Maududi:

That is, "Not to speak of building up your skeleton once again by gathering together the major bones? We are able to make whole the most delicate parts of your body, even your finger tips, as they used to be before."

So Maududi thought that Allah mentioned "fingertips" because they are the most delicate part of one's body. I would have thought that the eyes of a man are the most delicate part of his body than the "fingertips".

So if the Qur'an doesn't explain something, nothing else does.

Allah (SWT) mentioned restoration of man's "fingertips" because of the near uniqueness of fingertips of each man (his unique fingerprints come from there). These "fingertips" will have to be just as unique on the Day of Resurrection as these are in this life. And Allah (SWT) is saying in 75:4 that He can restore every man's fingertips simply because He is aware of the uniqueness of each man's fingertips (as his Creator).

The idea behind the exercise in the last few posts was to remind the reader that the Qur'an, not being the very first revelation from Allah (SWT) (there have been revelations before it), does not spoon-feed people. It reminds people of the previous revelations and carries on from there. There is no need to start from the beginning all over again. It is not the Old Testament, not the New Testament but the Last Testament.

As the Qur'an does not spoon-feed, it is up to us to ponder over its ayat (verses).

[38.29] (It is) a Book We have revealed to you abounding in good/blessings that they may ponder over its verses, and that those endowed with understanding may be mindful.

We must use "aql" ("sense") and reason to understand what is said in the verses of the Qur'an. Only then we will understand the Qur'an. In other words, we will never understand the Qur'an with our minds closed towards it.

State of Muslim Ummah, as to how much knowledge its members have today, can be judged by Muslims (believers) killing other believers intentionally (suicide bombers do exactly that). The Qur'an is clear on such a crime; the perpetrator will be punished in hell.

[4.93] And whoever kills a believer intentionally, his punishment is hell; he shall abide in it, and Allah will send His wrath on him and curse him and prepare for him a painful chastisement.

Therefore, every suicide bomber, who not only kills himself but other believers (such as those 130 killed a day or so ago in Pakistan) is not a martyr going to paradise but is going to hell according to the Qur'an.

Muslim politicians are not highlighting this aspect of Islamic education to stop suicide bombings because it is quite apparent that they themselves have very little knowledge about the Qur'an and do not know what the Qur'an is saying on Muslim suicide bombers killing other Muslims (believers).

[6.151] Say: Come I will recite what your Lord has forbidden to you-- (remember) that you do not associate anything with Him and show kindness to your parents, and do not slay your children for (fear of) poverty-- We provide for you and for them-- and do not draw nigh to indecencies, those of them which are apparent and those which are concealed, and do not kill the soul which Allah has forbidden except for the requirements of justice; this He has enjoined you with that you may understand (use sense/aql).

Therefore, killings such as through suicide bombings, summary executions without judicial process being involved, is forbidden in the Qur'an. Muslims must understand this unless they want to go to hell.

The verses 60:8 and 60:9 along with the above verse 6:151 forbid killing of innocent people of any religion or of no religion. Muslims must not do any killing that will make them go to hell.

[17.88] Say: If humans and jinn should combine together to bring the like of this Qur'an, they could not bring the like of it, though some of them were aiders of others.

[10.37] And this Qur'an is not such as could be devised by those besides Allah, but it is a verification of that which is before it and a clear explanation of the book, there is no doubt in it, from the Lord of the worlds.

[32.2] The revelation of the Book, there is no doubt in it, is from the Lord of the worlds.

The Qur'an could not have been either devised, written or recited for the first time unless it was revealed from the Lord of the worlds. Prophet Muhammad had never ever written any book with his hands nor ever recited any divine book before reciting the Qur'an to the people.

[29.48] And you did not recite before it any book, nor did you transcribe one with your right hand, for then could those who say untrue things have doubted.

[4.82] Do they not then meditate on the Qu'ran? And if it were from any other than Allah, they would have found in it many a discrepancy.

[18.1] Praise is due to Allah, Who revealed the Book to His servant and did not make in it any crookedness.

[4.131] And whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth is Allah's and certainly We enjoined those who were given the Book before you and you too that you should be conscious of Allah; and if you disbelieve, then surely whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth is Allah's and Allah is Self-sufficient, Praise-worthy.

Allah is Self-Sufficient. Allah is not in need of us or in need of our worship. It is us who are in need of Him.

[47.38] Behold! You are those who are called upon to spend in Allah's way, but among you are those who are mean/ungenerous, and whoever is mean/ungenerous is mean against his own soul; and Allah is Self-Sufficient and you have need (of Him), and if you turn back He will bring in your place another people, then they will not be like you.

[41.43] Naught is said to you but what was said indeed to the messengers before you; surely your Lord is the Lord of forgiveness and the Lord of painful retribution.

In essence, nothing new was said to the messenger Muhammad that wasn't said by Allah to the previous messengers. The Qur'an is a reminder of what has been revealed before it.

[81.27] It is naught but a reminder for the worlds.

[39.41] Surely We have revealed to you the Book with the truth for the sake of mankind; so whoever follows the right way, it is for his own soul and whoever errs, he errs only to its detriment; and you are not a custodian over them.

[39.23] Allah has revealed the best Hadith, a book conformable in its various parts, repeating, whereat do shudder the skins of those who stand in awe of their Lord, then their skins and their hearts become pliant to the remembrance of Allah; this is Allah's guidance, He guides with it whom He pleases; and him whom Allah makes err, there is no guide for him.

[16.64] And We have not revealed to you the Book except that you may make clear to them that about which they differ, and (as) a guidance and a mercy for a people who believe.

The Qur'an was revealed to make clear the matters of deen in which people had differences and as a guidance to people who believed.

[41.42] Falsehood shall not come to it from before it nor from behind it; a revelation from the Wise, the Praised One.

[6.155] And this is a Book We have revealed, blessed; therefore follow it and be conscious (of Allah) so that mercy may be shown to you.

[12.3] We narrate to you the best of narratives, by Our revealing to you this Qur'an, though before this you were certainly one of those who were not aware.

The above verse is from the Surah Yusuf (Chapter Joseph). It is a sad and heart rendering but at the same time a beautiful story from which we can learn a lot about how to be righteous and firm in our conviction. The saddest part was how Joseph's father had coped loss of his son but never lost hope even in his old age. The story is worth reading even if one does not read the rest of the Qur'an.

Tears had come to my eyes the first time I had read the full story. Anyone can read it by clicking the Link below (Shakir translation).

https://quod.lib.umich.edu/cgi/k/kor...V0&byte=356419

I will be surprised if one doesn't learn any lesson from reading this chapter of the Qur'an. It was revealed to Prophet Muhammad partly to firm his conviction and partly to teach other believers about righteousness.

[5.67] O messenger! Deliver what has been revealed to you from your Lord; and if you do it not, then you have not delivered His message, and Allah will protect you from the people; surely Allah will not guide the unbelieving people.

Messenger Muhammad had to deliver the message of the Qur'an exactly as it was revealed to him. The messenger had no option to change it in any way. He was of course warned that the words in the book of His Lord can't be changed and that His Lord will protect him when delivering the message.

[18.27] And recite what has been revealed to you of the Book of your Lord, there is none who can alter His words; and you shall not find any refuge besides Him.

The following 2 verses also leave no room for the messenger to change the message or fabricate any message from himself:

[10.61] And you are not (engaged) in any affair, nor do you recite concerning it any portion of the Qur'an, nor do you do any work but We are witnesses over you when you enter into it, and there does not lie concealed from your Lord the weight of an atom in the earth or in the heaven, nor any thing less than that nor greater, but it is in a clear book.

The "clear book" is a reference to the Lord's knowledge about everything.

[69.44] And if he had fabricated against Us some of the sayings,

[69.45] We would certainly have seized him by the right hand,

[69.46] Then We would certainly have cut off his aorta.

[69.47] And not one of you could have withheld Us from him.

The messenger had to deliver the message exactly as he received it. No other option!

[13.40] And We will either let you see part of what We threaten them with or cause you to die, for only the delivery of the message is (incumbent) on you, while calling (them) to account is Our (business).

[10.15] And when Our clear ayat are recited to them, those who hope not for Our meeting say: Bring a Qur'an other than this or change it. Say: It does not beseem me that I should change it of myself; I follow naught but what is revealed to me; surely I fear, if I disobey my Lord, the punishment of a mighty day.
