TRANSLATION (PART)

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
4. An-Nisaa

004.001
ABDLH.YUSUF ALI: O mankind! reverence your Guardian-Lord, who created you from a single person, created, of like nature, His mate, and from them twain scattered (like seeds) countless men and women;- reverence Allah, through whom ye demand your mutual (rights), and (reverence) the wombs (That bore you): for Allah ever watches over you.
MUHD M.W.PICKTHALL: O mankind! Be careful of your duty to your Lord Who created you from a single soul and from it created its mate and from them twain hath spread abroad a multitude of men and women. Be careful of your duty toward Allah in Whom ye claim (your rights) of one another, and toward the wombs (that bare you). Lo! Allah hath been a watcher over you.
M.H.SHAKIR: O people! be careful of (your duty to) your Lord, Who created you from a single being and created its mate of the same (kind) and spread from these two, many men and women; and be careful of (your duty to) Allah, by Whom you demand one of another (your rights), and (to) the ties of relationship; surely Allah ever watches over you.

004.002
ABDLH.YUSUF ALI: To orphans restore their property (When they reach their age), nor substitute (your) worthless things for (their) good ones; and devour not their substance (by mixing it up) with your own. For this is indeed a great sin.
MUHD M.W.PICKTHALL: Give unto orphans their wealth. Exchange not the good for the bad (in your management thereof) nor absorb their wealth into your own wealth. Lo! that would be a great sin.
M.H.SHAKIR: And give to the orphans their property, and do not substitute worthless (things) for (their) good (ones), and do not devour their property (as an addition) to your own property; this is surely a great crime.

004.003
ABDLH.YUSUF ALI: If ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly with the orphans, Marry women of your choice, Two or three or four; but if ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one, or (a captive) that your right hands possess, that will be more suitable, to prevent you from doing injustice.
MUHD M.W.PICKTHALL: And if ye fear that ye will not deal fairly by the orphans, marry of the women, who seem good to you, two or three or four; and if ye fear that ye cannot do justice (to so many) then one (only) or (the captives) that your right hands possess. Thus it is more likely that ye will not do injustice.
M.H.SHAKIR: And if you fear that you cannot act equitably towards orphans, then marry such women as seem good to you, two and three and four; but if you fear that you will not do justice (between them), then (marry) only one or what your right hands possess; this is more proper, that you may not deviate from the right course.

004.004
ABDLH.YUSUF ALI: And give the women (on marriage) their dower as a free gift; but if they, of their own good pleasure, remit any part of it to you, Take it and enjoy it with right good cheer.
MUHD M.W.PICKTHALL: And give unto the women (whom ye marry) free gift of their marriage portions; but if they of their own accord remit unto you a part thereof, then ye are welcome to absorb it (in your wealth).
M.H.SHAKIR: And give women their dowries as a free gift, but if they of themselves be pleased to give up to you a portion of it, then eat it with enjoyment and with wholesome result.

004.005
ABDLH.YUSUF ALI: To those weak of understanding Make not over your property, which Allah hath made a means of support for you, but feed and clothe them therewith, and speak to them words of kindness and justice.
MUHD M.W.PICKTHALL: Give not unto the foolish (what is in) your (keeping of their) wealth, which Allah hath given you to maintain; but feed and clothe them from it, and speak kindly unto them.
M.H.SHAKIR: And do not give away your property which Allah has made for you a (means of) support to the weak of understanding, and maintain them out of (the profits of) it, and clothe them and speak to them words of honest advice.

004.006
ABDLH.YUSUF ALI: Make trial of orphans until they reach the age of marriage; if then ye find sound judgment in them, release their property to them; but consume it not wastefully, nor in haste against their growing up. If the guardian is well-off, Let him claim no remuneration, but if he is poor, let him have for himself what is just and reasonable. When ye release their property to them, take witnesses in their presence: But all-sufficient is Allah in taking account.
MUHD M.W.PICKTHALL: Prove orphans till they reach the marriageable age; then, if ye find them of sound judgment, deliver over unto them their fortune; and devour it not by squandering and in haste lest they should grow up Whoso (of the guardians) is rich, let him abstain generously (from taking of the property of orphans); and whoso is poor let him take thereof in reason (for his guardianship). And when ye deliver up their fortune unto orphans, have (the transaction) witnessed in their presence. Allah sufficeth as a Reckoner.
M.H.SHAKIR: And test the orphans until they attain puberty; then if you find in them maturity of intellect, make over to them their property, and do not consume it extravagantly and hastily, lest they attain to full age; and whoever is rich, let him abstain altogether, and whoever is poor, let him eat reasonably; then when you make over to them their property, call witnesses in their presence; and Allah is enough as a Reckoner.

004.007
ABDLH.YUSUF ALI: From what is left by parents and those nearest related there is a share for men and a share for women, whether the property be small or large,-a determinate share.
MUHD M.W.PICKTHALL: Unto the men (of a family) belongeth a share of that which parents and near kindred leave, and unto the women a share of that which parents and near kindred leave, whether it be little or much – a legal share.
M.H.SHAKIR: Men shall have a portion of what the parents and the near relatives leave, and women shall have a portion of what the parents and the near relatives leave, whether there is little or much of it; a stated portion.

004.008
ABDLH.YUSUF ALI: But if at the time of division other relatives, or orphans or poor, are present, feed them out of the (property), and speak to them words of kindness and justice.
MUHD M.W.PICKTHALL: And when kinsfolk and orphans and the needy are present at the division (of the heritage), bestow on them therefrom and speak kindly unto them.
M.H.SHAKIR: And when there are present at the division the relatives and the orphans and the needy, give them (something) out of it and speak to them kind words.

004.009
ABDLH.YUSUF ALI: Let those (disposing of an estate) have the same fear in their minds as they would have for their own if they had left a helpless family behind: Let them fear Allah, and speak words of appropriate (comfort).
MUHD M.W.PICKTHALL: And let those fear (in their behaviour toward orphans) who if they left behind them weak offspring would be afraid for them. So let them mind their duty to Allah, and speak justly.
M.H.SHAKIR: And let those fear who, should they leave behind them weakly offspring, would fear on their account, so let them be careful of (their duty to) Allah, and let them speak right words.

004.010
ABDLH.YUSUF ALI: Those who unjustly eat up the property of orphans, eat up a Fire into their own bodies: They will soon be enduring a Blazing Fire!
MUHD M.W.PICKTHALL: Lo! Those who devour the wealth of orphans wrongfully, they do but swallow fire into their bellies, and they will be exposed to burning flame.
M.H.SHAKIR: (As for) those who swallow the property of the orphans unjustly, surely they only swallow fire into their bellies and they shall enter burning fire.

ABDLH.YUSUF ALI: Alif Lam Mim.
MUHD M.W.PICKTHALL: Alif. Lam. Mim.
M.H.SHAKIR: Alif Lam Mim.

003.002
ABDLH.YUSUF ALI: Allah! There is no god but He,-the Living, the Self-Subsisting, Eternal.
MUHD M.W.PICKTHALL: Allah! There is no god save Him, the Alive, the Eternal.
M.H.SHAKIR: Allah, (there is) no god but He, the Everliving, the Self-subsisting by Whom all things subsist

003.003
ABDLH.YUSUF ALI: It is He Who sent down to thee (step by step), in truth, the Book, confirming what went before it; and He sent down the Law (of Moses) and the Gospel (of Jesus) before this, as a guide to mankind, and He sent down the criterion (of judgment between right and wrong).
MUHD M.W.PICKTHALL: He hath revealed unto thee (Muhammad) the Scripture with truth, confirming that which was (revealed) before it, even as He revealed the Torah and the Gospel.
M.H.SHAKIR: He has revealed to you the Book with truth, verifying that which is before it, and He revealed the Taurat and the Injeel afore time, a guidance for the people, and He sent the Furqan.

003.004
ABDLH.YUSUF ALI: Then those who reject Faith in the Signs of Allah will suffer the severest penalty, and Allah is Exalted in Might, Lord of Retribution.
MUHD M.W.PICKTHALL: Aforetime, for a guidance to mankind; and hath revealed the Criterion (of right and wrong). Lo! those who disbelieve the revelations of Allah, theirs will be a heavy doom. Allah is Mighty, Able to Requite (the wrong).
M.H.SHAKIR: Surely they who disbelieve in the communications of Allah they shall have a severe chastisement; and Allah is Mighty, the Lord of retribution.

003.005
ABDLH.YUSUF ALI: From Allah, verily nothing is hidden on earth or in the heavens.
MUHD M.W.PICKTHALL: Lo! nothing in the earth or in the heavens is hidden from Allah.
M.H.SHAKIR: Allah– surely nothing is hidden from Him in the earth or in the heaven.

003.006
ABDLH.YUSUF ALI: He it is Who shapes you in the wombs as He pleases. There is no god but He, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
MUHD M.W.PICKTHALL: He it is Who fashioneth you in the wombs as pleaseth Him. There is no Allah save Him, the Almighty, the Wise.
M.H.SHAKIR: He it is Who shapes you in the wombs as He likes; there is no god but He, the Mighty, the Wise

003.007
ABDLH.YUSUF ALI: He it is Who has sent down to thee the Book: In it are verses basic or fundamental (of established meaning); they are the foundation of the Book: others are allegorical. But those in whose hearts is perversity follow the part thereof that is allegorical, seeking discord, and searching for its hidden meanings, but no one knows its hidden meanings except Allah. And those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say: “We believe in the Book; the whole of it is from our Lord:” and none will grasp the Message except men of understanding.
MUHD M.W.PICKTHALL: He it is Who hath revealed unto thee (Muhammad) the Scripture wherein are clear revelations – they are the substance of the Book – and others (which are) allegorical. But those in whose hearts is doubt pursue, forsooth, that which is allegorical seeking (to cause) dissension by seeking to explain it. None knoweth its explanation save Allah. And those who are of sound instruction say: We believe therein; the whole is from our Lord; but only men of understanding really heed.
M.H.SHAKIR: He it is Who has revealed the Book to you; some of its verses are decisive, they are the basis of the Book, and others are allegorical; then as for those in whose hearts there is perversity they follow the part of it which is allegorical, seeking to mislead and seeking to give it (their own) interpretation. but none knows its interpretation except Allah, and those who are firmly rooted in knowledge say: We believe in it, it is all from our Lord; and none do mind except those having understanding.

003.008
ABDLH.YUSUF ALI: “Our Lord!” (they say), “Let not our hearts deviate now after Thou hast guided us, but grant us mercy from Thine own Presence; for Thou art the Grantor of bounties without measure.
MUHD M.W.PICKTHALL: Our Lord! Cause not our hearts to stray after Thou hast guided us, and bestow upon us mercy from Thy Presence. Lo! Thou, only Thou, art the Bestower.
M.H.SHAKIR: Our Lord! make not our hearts to deviate after Thou hast guided us aright, and grant us from Thee mercy; surely Thou art the most liberal Giver.

003.009
ABDLH.YUSUF ALI: “Our Lord! Thou art He that will gather mankind Together against a day about which there is no doubt; for Allah never fails in His promise.”
MUHD M.W.PICKTHALL: Our Lord! Lo! it is Thou Who gatherest mankind together to a Day of which there is no doubt. Lo! Allah faileth not to keep the tryst.
M.H.SHAKIR: Our Lord! surely Thou art the Gatherer of men on a day about which there is no doubt; surely Allah will not fail (His) promise.

003.010
ABDLH.YUSUF ALI: Those who reject Faith,- neither their possessions nor their (numerous) progeny will avail them aught against Allah: They are themselves but fuel for the Fire.
MUHD M.W.PICKTHALL: (On that Day) neither the riches nor the progeny of those who disbelieve will aught avail them with Allah. They will be fuel for Fire.
M.H.SHAKIR: (As for) those who disbelieve, surely neither their wealth nor their children shall avail them in the least against Allah, and these it is who are the fuel of the fire.

Is there any Surah you have difficulty in understanding?

Has this helped you pick up some Qur'anic vocabulary to make it easier to understand the Qur'an in Arabic.

Since you seem to be the only person contributing to this thread, I will be curious to see if anyone responds to you.

It is not much of a discussion thread to Muslims. More of an info thread with links recitations. Not much for a Muslim to comment on.

I hope that Non-Muslims will find it helpful in seeing what the Qur'an actually says, instead of just looking at anti-Islamic sites..

There seem to be some regular viewers I assume it is people using it for finding recitations of Each Juz. Many of us try to listen to 1 Juz a day.
