Lots of conjecture. Perhaps you might read about the incident rather than making so many negative assumptions. Perhaps?

Its NEW YORK FRICKEN CITY. You say somthing rude and yea you just might get punched in the face. People have been murderd out there for doing and saying alot less offensive things. This incident seems kind of played out. I also notice this alder fellow points out that his own people sat and did nothing while this happend. which leads me to believe maybe they instigated it.

Forgive me but.... I'm not trying to get into semantics.. but the fact that 10 or so people acted that way is in no way an indication of what the answer is to "How will people respond when you say Happy Chanukah"...

Its not even close..

You are drawing a rather wide conclusion as to the actions of all Christians because of what a few did.

Personally I think what they did (the "Christians") was stupid and I would have no problem if they spent the next few years in jail under the charge of "Being an idiot".

Bet that would teach them to be more merry next time!

I did and it is still not clear to me if this character yelled happy hanukka to make a joke at the other person or what. all im saying is this might not have been racially motivated because the person was jewish. the article makes no mention of a confrontation until this fellow yelled happy hanukka in reply to someone wishing a merry christmas to perhaps a friend.

Frankly, mishigas73 said it best and I'll add:

Why is the story important?

Why is it in the news?

And what point is being made by posting the story here?

Yea except thats what I'm saying. Why is this a big deal. Things like this happen in new york all the time. Where is the proof this fight was racially instigated.

This is why I really can't stand the media. They just HAVE to put a spin on things that don't need a spin at all.

Totally agree, and so often it is just hype, and then folks take it seriously; and more arguments ensue.

Thanks, GCTroop. Many thanks!

Precisely! It happens in NYC, and Chicago and LA all the time, so why is it a story?

Rhetorical question only (see my post above).

I think it is as important as the issue of the "War on Christmas" ... not that either is earth shattering, but certainly, in this respect, important. It shows the intolerance of one religious group in relation with other religious groups.

I'd like to get back to the question of why some religious practitioners are so fearful of other belief systems that violence ensues?

This is one example of numerous ones I can use to illustrate the point. In Pittsburgh, PA, a Hindu temple was desecrated by christians. I don't see this happening by most people or most religions, but "christians" seem to participate in these actions at a greater rate.
