I think you just need to relax and have some eggnog that has the brandy in it. Chill out the whol christian world isnt after jews. Christians were the ones that helped save them 60 years ago mind you. Not every Christian has this intense hatred for jews. That guy was a random psyco and was ready to burst.

I'm going to ask one more time that we get back to the topic, or I will ask a moderator to close this thread.

Why are some religious practitioners so willing to take physical action against groups that believe differently. Is it fear? Is it hatred?

Gizmo, I've mentioned hindu temples being desecrated also.
I live in Asia where people don't care what you believe because it is a personal matter. The countries I'm aware of are Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Viet Nam. There are a lot of door christians in Japan.

I'll ditto ChielGirl, and ask you to get back on topic... if you want to discuss Israel, the Holocaust, foreign relations, etc., please go to the Politics or History forums!

That being said, let me please start over with my comments. I didn't mean to start a holy war, or to suggest that all Christians are attacking Jews... I was simply pointing out the irony of this story, since I'm constantly told "you should respond with Happy Chanukah" when I'm wished a Merry Christmas. Of course I typically just say "thanks, you too!" - as I did tonight when a sales clerk said it. I was also just commenting on the hate that still exists, no matter how you try to justify each incident of anti-Semitism, racism, and other forms of xenophobia. It is still a very big problem in this country, and I actually feel like it's gotten worse in recent years (post-9/11 in particular). Ignorance and denial will only make it worse, so I try not to forget the struggles we have... doesn't mean I dwell on them or live in fear, but stories like this are constant reminders.

There is a say merry Christmas campaign in my town. They pass out buttons for people to “proudly display the true reason for the season” and so many people are very upset about the many businesses that require their employees to say happy holidays. I am not a Christian, but I usually enjoy the holiday and I could give two cents about what holiday greetings people offer me. I smile and go on about my business. That being said, I would never respond with a happy holidays because of how fanatical the locals can be. The fears from previous scary incidents keep me from ever responding with anything but a smile.
I don’t believe that all people of different religions/philosophies respond to differences with violence. The fact that many people on this board have responded, in various occasions, to differences with kindness is an example. I have received more thoughtful, understanding, and kind messages from people on this board than in my own community. It cannot, however, be denied as a real problem. Most religions and philosophies have many similarities, and I think exploring those ideals may help to bring more tolerance.
