Wherever your job is going to be.

America has a long tradition of religious tolerance, people of minority religions here in America live in all of our states.

Most of the US born muslims are African American, the muslim sects which originated in this community have mostly black adherents- the Nation of Islam, 5%'ers,etc.

I believe Dearborn, Michigan has the largest Muslim population, but you should be able to find Muslim communities in most of the larger US cities.

Dearborn = suburban Detroit, and Detroit is one of the most dystopian and bleak places to live in the US. I would not get any closer to it than Ann Arbor. Avoid Flint and Pontiac and Toledo, too.

If I were in your situation I would seek out the most politically liberal enclaves (a place that's home to a major university is usually good) as they tend to be more inclusive and tolerant. Places like Seattle Washington, Berkeley California, Ithaca New York. Or large but thriving urban areas generally: the Bay Area (San Francisco), New York City, Chicago. But avoid the southeastern and south central US, known as the "Bible Belt". There are too many people there who are bug-eyed fanatics who think you are trying to bring Sharia Law to their community.

Obviously "where the work is" factors in also, but there are enough places where the US lives up to its reputation as a place of religious freedom, that you should have enough to pick from.

Another factor is your degree of adherence to cultural Islam. The more you dress and groom yourself and socialize like an average Brit, the more likely you are to "fit in" like an average American. The two countries are fairly similar in that regard. If a Brit can identify you by sight as Muslim, then you have to be more careful about avoiding the areas I mention above. The more you can be identified by sight as a native of a predominantly Islamic country, the more careful you have to be.
