Is Yemen turmoil a political issue or a religion issue? Are those rebels who are fighting against the government a bunch of Al Qaeda radicals as portrayed in the media?

Like most things in the Mideast it is political
Although many of the world's non-Muslims see it as a clash between Shi'ite and Sunni.

It is actually a 4 way split between Houthi, al-Qaeda, anti- government rebels and the government of Yemen

Hopefully we will keep out of it and let them settle it. The best we can do ist try to keep weapons from getting into the area

short run down

The US supported the Government
The anti Government rebels were trying to over throw the governmen
AL-Qaeda was also trying to over throw the government
the Houthi were trying to overthrow al-Qaeda, we supported them
But the Houthi also sided with the rebels which we did not like
The Houthi essentially want their own chunk of Yemen the three north west provences, the rebels and the government both oppopse that

It is a mess each of the 4 groups is opposed to the other 3

I agree with you on the U.S. not getting involved because this is a big mess !

But how about the U.S. just pounding and destroying AL Qaeda, and letting the three other sides settle?

That is like saying why not bomb New York, Los Angeles and Chicago to get rid of the gang members.

AL-Qaeda are like gang members, they live at home and their own family is probably unaware they belong to AL-Qaeda. They do not live in separate enclaves or neighborhoods. They are no different from any one else until they commit an act of terror.

Also not all AL-Qaeda like Taliban members are terrorists. Those are basically catch-all words that cover many different groups.
Taliban means Students
al Qaeda means the meeting place.

It is a case of we do not know who is a terrorist until after they commit an act of terrorism

What's going on in Yemen? Liberal democracy, a respect for human rights, science, the advancement of technology, a passion for innovation and the creative arts, a concern for women's rights, the rights of minorities and homosexuals, a tolerance of varying religions, atheism etc.
Hold on, wrong country, I must have been confusing it with somewhere else.

This thread appears to be political, having virtually nothing to do with Islam.
