It is noticed that if you use the Aramaic Gospel of Matthew you will find both Islam and Muslim being used notably in relation to submission to God(swt) in Matthew 28: 18-19 Althugh it is used 58 times in Matthew.

The Quran is the sole authority of Islam-proper.

The Torah, Psalms and the Gospel of Jesus as they are at the present state are deemed to be corrupted [changed, verses hidden] as asserted in the Quran. Whilst the Torah, Psalms and the Gospel of Jesus do contain SOME similarities with the Quran, they cannot be the same in totality, thus are to be condemned and avoided.
The Quran claimed the 'original Quran' that is in God's hand was conveyed to all messengers and prophets, has been corrupted and the only pure, perfect and complete Quran available and accessible is the latest Quran as revealed to Muhammad.

Islam is not a new religion and the Qur'an was not a new revelation. There were souces on how to perform Islam before the Qur'an. It is simply that there are no new sources after the Qur'an.
But a person is not going to be held accountable or responsible for that which they do not know. A person with no knowledge,through no fault of his own, can still perform Islam based upon what he does know and his abilities.

And We never punish until We have sent a Messenger (to give warning).}[Quran 17:15]

The above is in the context of the punishments of the old prophets. Note the verses that follows;

17:16. And when We would destroy a township We send commandment to its folk who live at ease, and afterward they [infidels] commit abomination therein, and so the Word (of doom) hath effect for it, and We annihilate it with complete annihilation.
17:17. How many generations have we destroyed since Noah! And Allah sufficeth as knower and Beholder of the sins of His slaves.

Elsewhere in the Quran there is no mercy for the infidels on Earth or in Hell. Non-Muslims are to be slain, killed, beheaded for merely that they are non-believers and/or if they threatened the religion. The term 'threatened' and 'wronged' is so vague that SOME (20% =300 million] very sensitive Muslims will resort to violence and evil on the slightest incidents, e.g. even on cartoons.

22:39. Sanction is given unto those [Muslims] who fight because they [Muslims] have been wronged* [by infidels and hypocrites]; and Allah is indeed Able to give them [Muslims] victory;
