Which is easier and more gratifying?
(posited by a non-Muslim westerner)
1) Study dry history books, and actually think about how much politically motivated people
who look like ourselves have interfered with and exploited people
who don't look like ourselves,
OR
2) Allow emotion and adrenaline to rush to the forefront and indulge in alarm at the sight of a hijab or earshot of Arabic prayer?
Them! Look!
They are over
there threatening us with
their foreignness!
The second course of stimulus response is infinitely easier and more 'fun' than reflecting upon how within the last century of geopolitics, Western forces have killed back the less virulent strains of violence, and allowed the more virulent strains of violence to reemerge,
exactly like an incomplete course of antibiotics.
It would be like if 16th, 17th, and 18th century Native Americans had managed to kill off the European Quakers, Mennonites, French traders, and other peasant farmers.... but left the Scots frontiersmen to repopulate.
