5:32 [Pickthall] For that cause We decreed for the Children of Israel that whosoever killeth a human being for other than manslaughter or corruption in the earth, it shall be as if he had killed all mankind, and whoso saveth the life of one, it shall be as if he had saved the life of all mankind. Our messengers came unto them of old with clear proofs (of Allah's Sovereignty), but afterwards lo! many of them became prodigals in the earth.
5:33 The only reward of those who make war upon Allah and His messenger and strive after corruption in the land will be that they will be killed or crucified, or have their hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, or will be expelled out of the land. Such will be their degradation in the world, and in the Hereafter theirs will be an awful doom;
What does 'corruption' mean in the above context?
In Pickthall, the term corruption appear 16 times.
'Corruption' is also synonymous with 'mischief'; i.e.
2:60 And when Moses asked for water for his people, We said: Smite with thy staff the rock. And there gushed out therefrom twelve springs (so that) each tribe knew their drinking-place. Eat and drink of that which Allah hath provided, and do not act corruptly, making mischief in the earth.

the word Fasadan [SIZE=6]فَسَادًا [/SIZE]has no exact English equivalent, but it carries quite a few connotations. Some of them being:
corruption
havoc
evil
chaos
mischief
trouble
I am very hard pressed to come up with an English word that corresponds to fasadan

Thanks for the Arabic word, I had intended to ask you for it.
I think we can get the meaning of Fasadan فَسَادًا from the various verses and the surrounding contexts of the verses. I would like to work on this.
While awaiting a more precise meaning, from what I have read of the Quran, I gather roughly the term 'Fasadan' [corruption] is a collective term that represent anything that is against Islam [Quran-MGA], wronged against Islam and Muslims. Here is an example of 'wronged' [mine]
22:39. Sanction [permission authorised] is given unto those [Muslims] who fight because they [Muslims] have been wronged [by infidels and hypocrites]; and Allah is indeed Able to give them [Muslims] victory;
Btw, what is the Arabic for 'wronged' in 22:39.
I think this 'wronged' would fit in as an element of 'corruption' and also 'mischief.'

In 22:39 the Arbic word translated as wronged is ظُلِمُوا thulimboo. It is also translated into numerous other words some of which are:
It is a word that has the concept of preventing something to be expressed or seen. Oppressed is probably the best translation in the context of that ayyat.

Noted. I think this ظُلِمُوا thulimboo is a subset of a negative to Islam that will fit into 'corruption' or 'mischief'.

that is a definite possibility.
although I have studied Arabic for many years, beginning in 1969. I still am not at a point to consider myself knowledgeable about the language.
Thank you for giving me another view about the word thulimboo. I will be seeking further into it's Aramaic and Hebrerw roots.
