And He it is Who has created the heavens and the earth in six Days and His Throne was on the water, that He might try you, which of you is the best in deeds. O mankind, you are those in need of Allah , while Allah is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy.
If the Qur'an tells you that you were created to worship Him, what do you understand from the word "worship"?

We do know we are to Worship Allaah(swt) and to obey him.

What we get confused over is the why. For that we speculate.

We do know Allaah(swat) has no needs, so therefore worshiping is for our benefit not to benefit Allaah(swt)

When one understand the Philosophy of Religion, the Psychology of Religion, the Neuroscience of Religion and the various aspects of human nature, one can understand why the majority of humans necessarily need to worship a God.

The Quran itself gives clues as to why the majority of humans need to worship a God, in this case Allah.
29:57 Every soul will taste of death. Then unto Us ye will be returned.
All over the Quran there are terrible threats to believers of an eternal death in Hell.
The consciousness of the above generate subliminal [not conscious] primal fears in the form of an existential dilemma and its related psychological angst, anxieties, despairs and hopelessness which drive humans to seek solution to ease the psychological discomforts.
10:57. O mankind! There hath come unto you an exhortation from your Lord, a balm for that which is in the breasts, a guidance [Quran] and a mercy for believers.

43:50. But when We eased them [infidels] of the torment, behold! they [infidels] broke their word.
{the Quran used the term ease frequently else relating to Muslims}
Thus believers worship Allah to seek a balm, ease and solutions to their psychological existential discomforts. In return Allah promised a balm to soothe the psychological ease in terms of eternal life in Paradise in addition to all sort of superlative sensual delight.

To reap the above rewards a Muslims must enter into a covenant with Allah where the Muslim must comply with all its terms and conditions as expressed in the Quran and no where else.

The above process is generic with all religions except the external approaches are different.

The word "worship" in English could be "ibadah" in Arabic but "ibadah" is not only "worship" but more appropriately "serve" as in service. For example, a deputy headteacher of a school serves the headteacher but it does not mean s/he is worshipping the headteacher. It would simply mean the deputy taking orders, instructions, guidance and direction from the headteacher.

Therefore, man was created to serve God, his Creator, as His deputy/vicegerent/caliph/khalif on earth. That is what "ibadah" means. Serve/service (ibadah) is much wider action than worship as in salah (formal prayer) or du'a (supplication prayer). There is no confusion in my mind as to why we should serve God as His deputies on earth. That is the only way to achieve the goal for which man was created and become "godly" people (God's vicegerent/khalif on earth).

The above is a quite brief explanation in the Qur'an as to the purpose of man's creation. It is a far bigger subject than mere "worshipping", praying 5 times a day as a ritual. Such prayers are only part of training tools towards learning to serve God as His deputies on earth.

Islam, cooperatively, means obeying instructions from Allah.
