And they call the names of Allah
But school-Azhar has transformed some of these names

In the narration of Tirmizhi, it states the 99 names of Allah SWT in the hadith and those names are actually inserted into the hadith and those insertions have been refuted and rejected by scholars of hadith. The hadith by Tirmizhi was narrated by Al Walid Ibn Muslim, from Shu'aib Ibn Abi Hamzah. For a finite being it is impossible. for aninfinite being it is a necessity thith infinite. Looking at the created universe there is almost an uncountable number of planets, many of which will be populated by other sapient ch created to match specific circumstances, these in turn bringing out attributes of Allaah(swt) given that the universe is very probably constantly being destroyed and recreated and will continue doing so for eternity. The attributes of Allaah(swt) will be constantly added to.
In Arabic names are attributes. for example my Islamic name is Abdullah Muhammad Abdullah means "Slave of Allah" Muhammad is derived from Ahmad which is derived from Hamid and related to "Praise' traditionally it is the name given to the first born son in a Muslim family it may also be selected by a revert to Islam.
When one "Learns / Memorizes" the 99 names they are also to emulate the attribute of each. the concept of learning to an Arabic speaker includes the trying to acquire the attribute.
this is not an Islamic requirement and the names were not told to us. We do suspect they are among the 160+ attributes named in the Qur'an.
roughly what it means is that if a person tries to live the 99 names they will be on the road to heaven they are some pretty nice qualities for a person to have. here are the most accepted names with their English meanings. (That is the most common listing. Other lists are also used.)

The Name Allaah(swt) is not used as it means all of the attributes those we know and the infinite number do not know. Many ultra fundamentalist Muslims forbid recitation of the 99 names as they claim it is mindless chanting with no purpose. Recitation and other forms of dhiker are very popular among Sufi.
