Even dictionary definitions are subjective. Look at dictionaries from different eras or by different people. Dictionary definitions are based upon majority usage and that differs according to time and location. For example look at the etymology of the word gay

Online Etymology Dictionary
The definitions are not subjective. There are two words that are spelled the same but have different meanings. Gay has two meanings and we can tell which meaning is being used based on context.
A definition is false and worthless if it is not contextually absolute—if it does not specify the known relationships among existents (in terms of the known essential characteristics) or if it contradicts the known (by omission or evasion).

Definitions of words are not absolute and change quite rapidly. Language is a very imprecise tool and subject to constant change to suit the populace. The words with the longest sustainability are the precise names of physical objects, but even those change through usage.

Books need to be revised constantly, just to keep up with the language changes.

Gay did not always have 2 meanings. The application to meaning a homosexual male came into common usage in about the 1960s.

Most people will misunderstand books that are over 100 years old, because word meanings have changed.

Much of the "Bawdy, humor" of Shakespeare is lost upon modern generations that are unaware of his reputation as a risque comedian. He was quite lewd when one knows the definitions of the era.

When one reads the Qur'an and Ahadith one must be certain they are understanding in terms of the language used and not definitions based upon Modern Arabic.
