What is it with the Middle Eastern mentality and the idea of shame and embarrassment. Is it influenced by Islam or the culture or is it an eastern thing. I often hear of them worrying about what other people think and worrying about reputation. Supposedly even the slightest thing can ruin it. Are people that self obsessed in that culture. Unless one is a celebrity no one cares in the US.

Influenced by their culture.

At one stage in the the past they were embarrassed even if a baby girl was born in their homes. They used to bury such a baby alive because of the embarrassment. Islam put a stop to such practice.

Look at the reciprocal and try to guess what would the middle Easterners think about the western cultures when they see that some westerners are OK with their mothers, sisters, wives and daughters being all naked for public display on nude beaches and nude colonies? No embarrassment, no shame.

The point is, every culture and every society has its norms - if it works for them then it works for them. If it works for you then it works for you.

There could be an element of human rights abuse in other cultures that we must raise our voices against, but it's very hard to understand and then pass a judgement on other cultural norms of other societies.

Just because you think something is weird in other cultures doesn't mean it should be weird for everyone, because there could be cultural norms in our society that may seem very weird to other cultures.
