During Easter Sunday Mass the Pope baptized, amongst others, somebody who converted from Islam.

These type of conversions from a religion to another happen all the time but this was a televised event that will be seen around the world

I am curious to know your opinion on this event.

Mother Theresa did it all the time to people who specifically requested that she not do so. At least this person asked.

Interesting that they chose to televise this, either catholic superiority and a neener, neener, neener or some other reason. Catholics aren't altruistic, IME.

I imagine that muslims were flogging themselves with bicycle chains. They don't take bad news very well.

I think it's a political thing, with what's going on in the Middle East. Is the pope trying to get a brownie point?
Weird, because people convert all the time. From Catholic to Muslim...from Muslim to Buddist...

Agreed. But don't you often wonder about the BIG religious shifts...Muslim to Christian...Christian to Bhuddist...etc.?

One doesn't bat an eye at Catholic to Assembly of God, or the other way around, though.... that's just a "minor tune-up" in my mind.

I had a university prof. who went from Judaism to Catholicism. Man, was she WEIRD, but it was a good thing, because I never drifted off as I continually analyzed her weirdness. She was an OK prof, and a fairly easy "A."

I think some people think converting will give them a better life. It may help them with a struggle they're going through. Or so they hope, they don't realize that no matter what denomination, the struggles and things they have to solve in life have to happen inside them, not inside some religious group. It's all part of people's search for better, better lives, better health(mental and physical)...

I guess some Catholics would rather convert than have their head chopped off.

The god they believe in stays the same, I don't see the point to converting but to each his own...Could be this particular guy converted because he didn't like throwing himself to the floor every so often anymore, that gets old after a while probably.
