Is Islam a Religion of Peace? I'm sorry to offend anyone. I'm not against any religion.

No, it is not a religion of peace. Anyone who believes it is deceived, including some who are followers.

Agreed. Most people who believe it is peaceful have never read the koran.

I don't think that islam is necessarily a religion of peace, but neither is christianity. Both can be taken either way, and both have been used to justify war.

You can argue whether the wars are a perversion of the religion, but you can argue whether almost anything is a perversion of the religion.

That's actually not true. Jesus taught kindness, love, and peace. Now, how someone behaves in the name of Christianity is a different story. That has nothing to do with the Bible itself. Christians are supposed to spread the Word with love, not by the sword.

But it is true. The crusades were done on the basis of religion, preached by Pope Urban II. This is only one example. The lunatics at Westboro Baptist Church also base their beliefs on the bible.

Whether or not you have the same interpretation of the bible as these other people is a different question. The point is that they are basing their actions on the same book that you are.

The Biblical God encouraged war quite often.

The Q'uran encourages war as well, if it is deemed "justified", just like the Bible.

The Q'uran teaches a lot about loving one's neighbor. Conflictingly, it then occasionally pops out with an indictment to bring war on those who don't believe. Just as the Bible teaches a lot about loving one's neighbor, then lists all the people we should not allow to live (witches...gays...women who dress like men...etc.).

Islam's actual beliefs seem to be no more and no less violent than the beliefs espoused in the Bible.

Some Muslims twist their religion to condone hideous acts, just as some Christians, many, actually, all throughout history have twisted their religion to condone hideous acts. En masse. And repeatedly.

Let the Qur'an speak for itself:
Sura 4.56: (As for) those who disbelieve in Our communications, We shall make them enter fire; so oft as their skins are thoroughly burned, We will change them for other skins, that they may taste the chastisement; surely Allah is Mighty, Wise.
9:5 Then, when the sacred months have passed, slay the idolaters wherever ye find them, and take them (captive), and besiege them, and prepare for them each ambush. But if they repent and establish worship and pay the poor-due, then leave their way free. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
9:29 Fight against such of those who have been given the Scripture as believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, and forbid not that which Allah hath forbidden by His messenger, and follow not the Religion of Truth, until they pay the tribute readily, being brought low. Fight against Christians and Jews "until they pay the tribute (the Dhimmi) readily, being brought low."

How should Jews and Christians be treated?
Is each person be free to believe as he or she wishes?

"The Jews say: Ezra is the son of Allah."
(Where and when did any Jew ever say that?)

Christians and Jews are perverse. Allah himself fights against them.

9:31"They have taken as lords ... their rabbis and their monks."
Jews and Christians consider rabbis and monks to be partners with God? How do Muslims treat Muhammad?
9:30 And the Jews say: Ezra is the son of Allah, and the Christians say: The Messiah is the son of Allah. That is their saying with their mouths. They imitate the saying of those who disbelieved of old. Allah (Himself) fighteth against them. How perverse are they!
9:41 Go forth, light-armed and heavy-armed, and strive with your wealth and your lives in the way of Allah! That is best for you if ye but knew.

Sura 5:51: “O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends and protectors: they are but friends and protectors to each other. And he among you that turns to them for friendship is of them.” This friendship makes any Muslim a enemy of their own and deserving of the same fate as the unbeliever. This is because God does not guide an unjust people.

Sura3 3:64: “Verily Allah has cursed the Unbelievers (whom he defined as Christians in the 5th surah “Believers, take not Jews and Christians for your friends.) and has prepared for them a Blazing Fire to dwell in forever. No protector will they find, nor savior. That Day their faces will be turned upside down in the Fire. They will say: ‘Woe to us! We should have obeyed Allah and obeyed the Messenger!’ ‘Our Lord! Give them double torment and curse them with a very great Curse!’”

So, no not so much...

And that is how we (Christians know each other) if their fruit is rotten as in these instances we know that these who kill in the name of Christ are not of Christ. They are not basing there actions on the Word even if they claim they are...the Word does not tell us to murder and torture in the name of Christ. They are false teachers, apostates. They are not of God. No matter what they claim.
