I was wondering what did people think of the zoo's location. Is it the best place for the zoo, or should it be placed in an area more prone for growth? A letter in the Clarion Ledger proposed moving the zoo to Lefleurs Bluff. I wondered how people felt about this. What are some of the pros and cons? I couldn't help but think about Central Park Zoo and Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago. They are both in beautiful parks that seem to really help create an atmosphere and give an extra incentive to visit the park and the zoo. What do you think? Is this a good or bad idea?

LeFleur's is a nice setting for a zoo, but the area is known to flood periodically, which could cause big problems with any built structure meant to hold live animals. I like the current location of the Jackson Zoo because it helps the immediate area economically and socially - if you moved the zoo from that area, it would have a substantial negative impact on the surrounding area.

Interesting idea...

Not sure there's enough room at LeFleur for a full-scale zoo. Remember, in Chicago the Lincoln Park zoo is kind of a small thing - the "real" zoo in Chicago is actually in the suburbs (Brookfield Zoo).

Assuming there's enough space, and enough capital to build it well, Lefleur might be a decent area.

Of course, now that you're removing an attraction from an already depressed area, how about refurbishing and reopening Lake Livingston? Let's not just abandon the people in that area - give them a recreational lake to be proud of.
