New to the area and looking for suggestions/recommendations for public places that would be fun to take our golden retriever, especially places where we're likely to encounter other well-socialized dogs.

Try the park over by **** of the Walk at the reservoir. If you're on Rice Road in Madison headed toward Ridgeland, you'll pass Tidewater subdivision on your right as you cross into Ridgeland, and you'll come to a 3-way stop as you go under the Natchez Trace. Take a left and you'll drive less than a mile and the park will be on you're right.

Well good grief, looks like the filters won't let you type the name of a restaurant. Over by Philips resaurant then.

We take our black lab/weimaraner puppy to Lakeshore Park & Pelahatchie Shore Park on the Rez. Lots of folks bring their dogs there, but especially retrievers since there's a frisbee golf course and shallow water for fetching.

Also, you may want to subscribe the CARA or MARL websites. CARA just had an event at Pelahatchie Shore where you could bring your dogs. The Epilepsy Foundation is having an event either this month or next month called "Off the Leash" where you can bring your dog.

Don't feel bad. For a while, there was censorware out there that changed 'Assassination' to 'Buttbuttination'. (Really)

Oh, and on the subject of dogs, when it's time to board yours, OP, Madison's Chateau la Pooch is the ONLY place for the pampered canine. Chateau La Pooch

Default Bree's Bark Park

Bree's Bark Park is a fantastic dog park that is a 15 to 20 minute ride from Madison. It is 1.6 acres fully fenced, has a small and large dog park, a 26' diameter splash pool, big grassy lawn, big deck w/ benches, poop stations, play equipment in the small dog park... It is next to CARA on Flag Chapel Road, take 220, get off at Megar Evers and take an immediate left on Northside, Flag Chapel is right down the road. It is a members only park, so all dogs must be spayed or neutered, up to date on shots and friendly. The cost is $33 per quarter for the first dogs, additional dogs are an extra $3 per quarter. 92% of the membership fee goes to CARA to take care of dogs and cats awaiting their forever home.
