We are relocating to Jackson and looking to live in Madison or Ridgeland. I've always heard you have to go to private schools. Are the public schools in Madison or Ridgeland good or do I need to put my kids in private school? What private schools do you recommend? I've heard most about St. Andrews and Jackson Academy. Thanks for your input!

Madison Middle School is ranked number one in the state based on test scores. Germantown Middle School just north of Madison is in the top 10. Ridgeland schools test scores are actually very good also, very close to Madison schools and a bit more socioeconomically diverse. Rankin County schools do very well also, particularly those near the Reservoir that feed into Northwest Rankin high school. For private schools, yes you mentioned St. Andrew's and JA, both very good. St. Andrew's is known for sending a lot of graduates to Ivy League type schools and having high numbers of national merit scholars. JA usually has 5 to 10 national merits also, so they're both good. In Madison there are also Catholic schools (St. Joe) and Madison-Ridgeland Academy, both very nice.
