Hi all,

I am going to be doing a year of work in Jackson, MS starting in approximately 2 weeks. My parents are from Hattiesburg, MS so I am only familiar with the Hburg area. I need a studio/1Br apartment for rent in Jackson/surrounding close vicinities. I am also a 23 year old female who would NEED a safe neighborhood/apartment complex to reside in (if any of you are familiar with NAMES OF APARTMENT COMPLEXES that I could look up specifically, that would be the MOST helpful). I am aware from researching online that Flowood, Brandon, and Pearl seem to be safe areas to reside in, however, all of their 1BR/studio apartments that I could find online are all horrendously expensive (some ranging from $800-1000)...I would prefer maybe leases with a bit more affordability.

Any help provided would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much!

You can also check in the Belhaven area for a nice 1bd Home/Apt close to Belhaven College or Baptist Hospital. The only thing I would suggest is a car alarm or club for your steering wheel and not have anything (gps, ipod) visible in your vehicle. As far as crime, it's all over Metro Jackson including neighboring cities .... sometimes we tend not to report all statistics as opposed to Jackson. You can also check in the Northeast Jackson area (Old Canton Rd/County Line Road) area too. Good Luck!!

I'm in a very similar situation myself. I ended up going with The Pointe of Ridgeland (kinda expensive I guess, but only about a mile away from my office). One of the other complexes that seemed pretty decent was Tracewoods. There are an overwhelming amount of complexes in the area.

If you're in town, definitely pick up an Apartment Guide from a gas station or Kroger, it was a HUGE help just visualizing where things were. If you can handle living way out, The Links of Madison were really nice and quite affordable too.

I just moved to Jackson and rent in a safe, nice apartment was surprisingly expensive. I'm at Cypress Pointe in Flowood and it's a nice place to live, but I'm paying more than I'd originally wanted to. I found there were not a lot of vacancies at places, no good move in specials or incentives.

Thanks for all the help! It's great to know I'm not alone in this struggle to find a safe/affordable living situation. I think I'm going to check out Tracewood apartment as well as The crossings at Ridgewood soon! They both look pretty nice, and they're in north Jackson (which I heard is relatively safer) + they'll be closer to work. Hopefully one of them works out

North Jackson is relatively safe but if if safety is your priority, especially for apartmetnts, Ridgeland or Flowood have better police departments. The apartments starting at Lake Harbour Drive up to Rice Rd in Ridgeland are a very good choice or anything in Flowood.

I agree. I also live in Cypress Point. Moved in here back in April. It's a nice complex.

It's has a great location, located off Lakeland. It's close to downtown Jackson and shopping on Lakeland, obviously, Ridgeland and Madison. I'd recommend taking a look.
