The Chapel of the Cross out in Madison has a pretty interesting story behind it. Helen Johnstone's fiancé was killed in Mobile, Alabama on the eve of their wedding and when his body was brought back to the church to be buried there, Helen stayed at the grave for months just crying at his grave. Finally her mother took her overseas to cease the extreme mourning.

She later married a reverend and lived and died in Rolling Fork, Mississippi where she is currently buried. Her ghost sits beside her fiancé's grave to this day crying. If you approach her she will disappear.

Other interesting things about the church, the church's caretaker's wife visited him while on the job one late night and apparently she had a real annoying laugh. One thing lead to another and the caretaker ended up cutting his wife's head off and hanging himself from the raftors of the church.

Back in the 1970s, some students from Belhaven University witnessed two ghostly figures exiting the church and climbing into some nearby trees where they disappeared.

Also next door to the church is a 1920s reconstruction of the Johnstone plantation home known as Annandale. The original plantation house burned in 1924 and it was reconstructed not long after that. Also not too far from here is the subdivision known as Ingleside, which gets it's name from Helen Johnstone's sister's plantation house that had the same name.

You most likely have Native American spirits running around in the area, due to you being so close to the Natchez Trace Parkway.

Growing up my family lived out on Shadow Hill Drive off of Old Rice Road not too far from Northbay and where you live. My dad always tells me when I was a kid doors would open by themselves and a beat of a drum could be heard around the house sometimes as well.

Most likely, all it is is old Native American spirits running around because I know the subdivision I grew up in was built on a former Indian Mound, and most likely yours could've been too.
