Hard to find, but great people and good food:
Lumpkins BBQ - Jackson | Urbanspoon

Easy to find, right off I-55 near downtown:
Chimneyville BBQ - Jackson | Urbanspoon

Best barbecue, but in a kind of dodgy area:
Chimneyville BBQ - Jackson | Urbanspoon

These are the two places I send 'good-ol-boy' businessmen to be entertained. They always rave about the food, and the general experience. The second one is harder to find, but absolute heaven for people who think everything's better with Pork. Neither place seems to specialize in biscuits, though. Odd. I'd think both would have gotten the recipe for those lumpy Charleston-style biscuits that are so good. But maybe it's just Delta Aristocrats who like those.

Right off the interstate heading North to Memphis (as in first thing on the east side) is Haute Pig, in Madison. Ultra-convenient, rugged-classy (rich bubbas) crowd, and ultra-safe locale. Their website: Home

Then, there's Mama Hamil's, the state-of-the-art home cookin' place, also in Madison. Legendary, if down-home Southern fare is your thing. Hamil's rolls and cornbread are wonderful. About the only thing on the menu this Vegetarian girl can eat. Most locals think this is the most wonderful food in the world, if not the center of the universe.

Me, I'd head farther into Madison, and go to Strawberry Cafe. It's in an old railroad depot. The menu is Southern Genteel, instead Southern Poverty, and the lunch crowd is generally wall-to-wall-millionaires (in shorts and flipflops, having arrived in their toned-down conveyance: a white Lexus SUV, the Lambo/Bentley/Maserati, they hide in the garage).
